Grade Point Average (GPA)
The GPA is calculated by dividing total quality points by total semester credit hours attempted, excluding hours of AU, I, P, NP, CR, W, WM, and WS.
Formula: multiply each course's semester credit hours by its quality points, sum these values, then divide by the total semester credit hours attempted.
When a course is repeated, the most recent grade earned (excluding a "W") replaces the earlier grade in the GPA calculation. Other institutions may not follow this practice; students planning to transfer should confirm the receiving institution's own repeat-grade policy.

Academic Standing and Probation
Good Standing requires a minimum overall GPA of 2.0, including developmental courses.
Students who fall below a cumulative GPA of 2.0 are placed on Academic Probation and must earn a semester-term GPA of 2.0 or higher each term to remain enrolled; probation is removed once both the semester and cumulative GPA reach 2.0 or better.
A student on probation who fails to earn a 2.0 semester or cumulative GPA in the following term is placed on Academic Dismissal. After one semester away, a dismissed student may re-enroll on probation with advisement; a third dismissal bars enrollment for one calendar year.

Degree and Certificate Requirements
To be awarded an associate degree or certificate, students must achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 in all TSC coursework (excluding developmental-level coursework), complete at least 25% of degree hours in residency at TSC, fulfill Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements, and be in Good Academic Standing at the time the award is granted.

Academic Honors
Each fall and spring term, TSC recognizes three in-term honors: the Deans' List (12+ semester hours, term GPA 3.5 or higher), the Honors List (12+ semester hours, term GPA 3.0-3.49), and the Merit List (fewer than 12 hours per term across two consecutive terms, 18+ combined hours, combined GPA 3.5 or higher).
Graduation honors are based on cumulative GPA on non-developmental coursework, using the last grade recorded for any repeated course: Summa Cum Laude 3.900-4.000, Magna Cum Laude 3.700-3.899, Cum Laude 3.500-3.699.

Transfer Credit
Only courses in which a grade of "C" or better was earned may be applied toward a TSC certificate or degree, and credit is accepted only from institutions accredited by an agency the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board recognizes.
At least 25% of the semester credit hours required for a degree or certificate must be completed at TSC. Courses taken 10 or more years before a student's last enrollment do not count toward an Associate of Applied Science degree or a Certificate of Proficiency, absent an approved petition.
Transcripts from foreign institutions require an official third-party evaluation from a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member.
