How grading works at East Stroudsburg University

East Stroudsburg University (ESU) uses a letter-grade, quality-point system on a 0.00–4.00 scale. Quality points are assigned per credit hour, with an A worth 4.0 and no letter grade worth more than that — ESU does not award an A+. Quality points are awarded only for work completed at East Stroudsburg University itself.

In addition to meeting course and semester-hour requirements, students must maintain a specified quality-point level throughout their curriculum. The minimum number of quality points required for graduation is twice the number of semester hours of credit attempted — so a 120-credit degree requires at least 240 quality points overall.

Which ESU grades count toward your GPA

Pass/fail courses are not used in the computation of the quality point average. Work completed at other colleges and accepted as transfer credit is not considered in computing the quality point average — quality points are awarded only for work completed at ESU itself.

An Incomplete ("I") grade must be resolved within one semester of the end of the session in which it was assigned. After that grace period, the Registrar automatically converts the "I" to an E, F, or U depending on the grade mode of the course. Students who cannot finish the required coursework in time should notify their instructor as soon as possible; a faculty member may instead have the student sign a contract specifying different completion conditions.

Course repeats: undergraduates are limited to a maximum of six repeats total during their enrollment (an individual-course count, not a credit count), and no single course may be taken more than three times. When a course is repeated, the most recent grade — whether higher or lower — is the one used in the GPA calculation; earlier attempts remain on the transcript marked as repeated coursework.

GPA requirements to graduate from ESU

A student at East Stroudsburg University must earn a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.000 to graduate — individual departments may stipulate higher graduation requirements for their own programs — in addition to completing general-education and competency requirements and filing an intent-to-graduate request. The minimum number of quality points required for graduation is twice the number of semester hours of credit attempted.

Commencement is held at the end of the spring semester; students who complete degree requirements in August, December, January, or May may all participate in the spring ceremony. The official degree-conferral date recorded on the transcript is the semester in which all degree requirements were completed and confirmed by the Registrar.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at ESU?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at ESU?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this East Stroudsburg University (ESU) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
Does East Stroudsburg University give A+ grades?

No. ESU's quality-point table tops out at A, worth 4.0; there is no A+ symbol anywhere in the university's published grading table, so your ESU GPA cannot exceed 4.00 through course grades.

What GPA do I need to graduate from ESU?

2.000 or higher, cumulative — though individual departments may require a higher GPA for their own degree programs. You'll also need to earn total quality points equal to at least twice your attempted semester hours, complete general-education and competency requirements, and file an intent-to-graduate request.

How many times can I repeat a course at ESU?

A single course can be taken a maximum of three times, and undergraduates are capped at six course repeats total across their whole enrollment (counted by course, not by credit). Whichever attempt is most recent — even if it's a lower grade than an earlier attempt — is the one used in your GPA calculation; the other attempts stay on your transcript marked as repeats.

What happens if I don't finish an Incomplete ("I") grade in time?

You have one semester from the end of the session the "I" was assigned in to finish the coursework. After that, the Registrar automatically converts the "I" into an E, F, or U, depending on the grade mode of the course. If you apply to graduate before the grace period expires, the work must be finished by the end of that session or the same automatic conversion applies.

What GPA do I need for graduation honors at ESU?

You need 3.4 or higher in cumulative quality-point average, plus 45 completed ESU credits with qualifying letter grades. The three tiers are Cum Laude (3.4–3.599), Magna Cum Laude (3.6–3.799), and Summa Cum Laude (3.8 or above). Honors are calculated on all coursework completed at East Stroudsburg University.
