How grading works at Hinds
Hinds grades on a 4.0 scale using six notations, all of them used in the quality point average computation: A (4), B (3), C (2), D (1), F (0), and I/Incomplete (0).
There is no A+ and no plus/minus grading at all.
Several other marks appear on a transcript but carry no quality points and are not used in the GPA: AU (Audit), IP (In Progress), W (Withdrawal from Course), NC (No Credit), and the obsolete WF/WP (Withdrawal Failing/Passing).

How your quality point average is calculated at Hinds
Your quality point average (QPA/GPA) is the total number of quality points earned divided by the total semester hours attempted.
If you repeat a course already taken at Hinds for grade replacement, only the highest grade counts toward your GPA — all attempts remain on the transcript. Some courses (e.g. Physical Education Activity, Music Lessons, Seminars) can instead be repeated for additional credit and are not eligible for grade replacement. The course must be repeated at Hinds to raise a Hinds GPA.

Scholastic Probation, Suspension, and Restart at Hinds
You're placed on Scholastic Probation if, from Good Standing, your term GPA falls below 1.75 in a fall or spring term. While on probation, a term GPA again below 1.75 moves you to Scholastic Suspension if your overall GPA is also below 2.00 — otherwise you remain on probation. You return to Good Standing once your term GPA is 1.75 or above and your overall GPA is 2.0 or above.
A Scholastic Restart option lets a student separated from Hinds for at least two academic years petition to establish a new institutional GPA, provided the first 12 semester hours after re-enrollment are completed with a minimum 2.5 QPA on a 4.0 scale (no more than 3 W grades in that span). Coursework from before the restart term is excluded from the institutional GPA, graduation GPA, and academic standing determination, though no grades are removed from the transcript; all historical hours still count for federal financial aid Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Transfer credit and GPA at Hinds
Transfer credit is accepted for non-developmental courses graded “D” or above at a regionally accredited institution (some programs require “C” or above), up to 46 semester hours — but transferred coursework carries no quantitative grade and is not used in calculating the GPA. Passing (“P”)/Failing (“F”) credit from a regionally accredited institution is accepted for placement and transfer the same way.
A student must complete at least 25% of their semester hours at Hinds to graduate, and a cumulative 2.0 GPA is required on all courses used to meet degree requirements.
