Itawamba Community College (ICC) GPA Calculator

Beyond the letter grades A–F, Itawamba Community College uses several notations that carry no grade-point value and are not counted toward GPA:

• I (Incomplete) — assigned when required coursework is unfinished for unavoidable reasons; it converts to an F if not completed by mid-semester of the following semester.
• IP (In-Progress) — used for developmental courses not finished by term end; not used in computing GPA.
• W (Withdrawal) — assigned for withdrawal before the deadline or an excessive-absence drop.
• X (Audit) — no credit is awarded for an audited course.
• Z — credit awarded without a quality grade (used for approved military training and certain advanced-placement credit); not used in computing GPA.

GPA is the ratio of Quality Points to Hours Attempted. Hours Attempted counts only semester hours graded A, B, C, D, or F; hours graded W, IP, X, or Z do not count as hours attempted and do not affect GPA.

When a course is repeated, every attempt is recorded on the transcript and each attempt's quality points count toward that term's GPA. For courses taken from spring 1986 forward and repeated from spring 1998 forward, the best grade is used to compute the cumulative GPA and the cumulative GPA used for graduation requirements, graduation with honors, and class rank. This best-grade rule applies only to courses taken and retaken at ICC. Courses repeated before spring 1998 are calculated under the former method, using all attempts.

A student is making less than satisfactory progress whenever their GPA for the preceding semester is below 1.00, or below 1.50 for the preceding two consecutive semesters. A student not meeting these standards is placed on academic probation for one semester, during which a 1.5 GPA on all work attempted must be earned; only one semester of probation is allowed. A student still not meeting the minimum standards after the probationary semester is not permitted to register the following semester. A dismissed student may petition the Enrollment Committee for an exception to the minimum readmission requirements.

Candidates for the Associate of Arts degree must complete a minimum of 60 semester hours with a GPA of 2.0 on hours applied toward graduation. Developmental credit does not count toward graduation requirements, and up to three nonacademic hours (e.g., one-hour physical education, band, choir, drama production, publications, leadership) may be applied.

The minimum grade accepted for transfer credit from another college or university is a 'D' or higher, though some degree programs require a 'C' or higher; only freshman- and sophomore-level courses are accepted (junior-level exceptions require approval). A student must earn at least 25 percent of their degree requirements at Itawamba Community College to be eligible for a degree or certificate. Transfer students are subject to the same academic probation and dismissal policies as continuing ICC students, and transfer students not meeting a 1.5 GPA are admitted on academic probation. Transferred 'W' and 'F' grades are coded TW and TF on the ICC transcript and are not computed into the ICC GPA; passing transfer grades are transcribed without notation.
