How GPA Is Calculated

Cumulative GPA includes all coursework that receives a letter grade, including developmental coursework, and appears on the CSI transcript as "Career Totals." It is used to determine academic standing and graduation honors.

Audited courses, Pass/Fail courses, and courses with a grade of Incomplete are not used to calculate GPA. GPA is computed as Total Quality Points Earned divided by GPA Credits Attempted, where quality points for a course equal its credit hours multiplied by the grade's point value.

A grade of Incomplete (I) is excluded from GPA calculations until a final grade is posted. The instructor-student contract to finish the work may not exceed one year; if no other grade has been assigned by the end of the contract, a grade of F is automatically recorded.

Graduation Requirements

Students must apply for graduation before the end of the term in which the degree or certificate will be conferred; applications received after that deadline are reviewed in the next conferment period.

All documentation needed to complete graduation requirements, such as transfer work, Alternative Credit requests, and Incomplete-grade contracts, must reach the Office of the Registrar within two weeks of the end of the term.

Transfer students must complete at least 20% of their credits at CSI in order to graduate from the College of Southern Idaho.

Academic Honors

President's List and Dean's List are semester-based distinctions for full-time students (12 or more credits from graded courses): President's List requires a 4.00 semester GPA, and Dean's List requires a 3.50-3.99 semester GPA. A grade of Incomplete or a missing grade prevents a student from receiving either.

At graduation, commencement honors are based on cumulative GPA: Cum Laude (3.50-3.69), Magna Cum Laude (3.70-3.89), and Summa Cum Laude (3.90-4.00). These apply only to associate and bachelor's degrees (AA, AS, AAS, BAS); Academic Certificates, Basic Technical Certificates, and Intermediate Technical Certificates are not eligible. An Incomplete or missing grade can delay these honors until resolved.

The CSI Honors Program is open to students who hold and maintain a 3.5 GPA or above, admitted competitively each fall and spring.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at CSI?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at CSI?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this College of Southern Idaho (CSI) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
