Missouri S&T reports undergraduate grades of A, B, C, D, and F, plus several non-GPA designations: I (Incomplete), S (Satisfactory) and U (Unsatisfactory), DL (Delayed, for undergraduate research courses only), and Y (no grade available). S and U grades are permitted only for orientation courses, seminars, special problems, special readings, certain independent study courses, education laboratories, research, and pass/fail courses.

A DL grade must be removed by the end of the following semester or the registrar will assign a grade of U. An Incomplete (I) is used only when illness, unavoidable absence, or active military service prevents a student from completing a course.

Semester GPA is the total grade points earned that semester divided by the total credit hours scheduled, excluding courses taken Pass/Fail. Cumulative GPA is calculated the same way across all college-credit coursework for which a letter grade (or equivalent) has been given, also excluding Pass/Fail courses.

For Missouri S&T coursework repeated Fall 2001 or later, a grade of D or F may be replaced in the GPA calculation when the course is repeated at Missouri S&T, up to a maximum of 15 semester hours dropped from the GPA calculation; a repeated course replaces only one previous grade in that same course. Grades of I, W, HR, or Pass/Fail do not replace a previous grade under this policy, and a student cannot repeat a course in which they previously earned a grade of C or higher.

A student is placed on academic notice if their current semester GPA is less than 2.000; while on notice, enrollment is restricted to no more than 13 credit hours in fall or spring (6 in summer), and the student may not hold office in or join additional organizations.

A student on academic notice who earns a Missouri S&T semester GPA below 2.000 in a second consecutive or third cumulative fall or spring semester is subject to academic dismissal.

Students earning a degree from Missouri S&T must have a GPA of at least 2.000 in courses taken at Missouri S&T and an overall cumulative GPA of at least 2.000 across all courses. Students in engineering departments also have a GPA requirement of 2.000 in their major field of study.

Students completing at least 12 credit hours with all passing grades and a semester GPA of at least 3.200 are placed on the semester Honor Roll.

Honors at graduation are based on the University of Missouri cumulative GPA: Summa Cum Laude requires 3.800 or better, Magna Cum Laude requires 3.500 to 3.799, and Cum Laude requires 3.200 to 3.499.

Missouri S&T accepts all college-level courses from accredited institutions; remedial, preparatory, vocational, technical, or non-college-level courses are not accepted. All grades, quality points, and credit hours from transfer coursework are computed in the cumulative GPA, though up to 15 semester transfer hours may be dropped from the GPA calculation when a grade was excluded from the sending institution's own GPA under its repeat or forgiveness policy, upon verification.

Courses transferred from international institutions with a grade of C- or higher receive an EX grade. College-level dual-credit coursework earned while in high school follows the same policy as transfer credit.
