How Your GPA Is Calculated
Grades of I, AU, W, AW, S/U, N, P, and NP are GPA neutral and are not counted in the grade point average.
- Repeated courses: students may attempt an identical course up to four times to improve a grade; only the highest of those attempts counts toward the GPA, though all attempts remain on the transcript.
- Academic Reprieve: excludes up to two consecutive semesters from the GPA calculation for students who have experienced extraordinary circumstances.
- Academic Renewal: excludes all coursework taken before a specified date from the GPA calculation for a fresh start.
A student may use either Academic Reprieve or Academic Renewal only once in their academic career, and both require a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher with no grade below "C" (minimum 12 regularly graded hours) to qualify.

Academic Notice, Probation, and Suspension
A student is placed on academic notice or probation based on a retention GPA requirement tied to credit hours attempted:
| Credit Hours | Retention GPA Requirement |
|---|---|
| 0 through 30 semester credit hours | 1.7 |
| Greater than 30 semester credit hours | 2.0 |
- Academic Notice: freshman students (30 or fewer credit hours) with a cumulative GPA of 1.7 to less than 2.0.
- Academic Probation: any student whose retention GPA falls below the chart above at the end of a term.
- Academic Suspension: a student on probation who fails to raise their GPA to the required retention level, or to a 2.0 in regularly graded coursework, in the following term.

GPA Requirement for Graduation
A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 is required to meet graduation requirements for the Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Applied Science degrees. Developmental courses are not included in any GPA calculation, and physical education activity courses may not count toward the credit-hour requirement of any program. Some programs may require a higher GPA on specific courses.
