Grading system

NWTC records grades on a 4.0 scale; every graded credit unit carries a specified point value from the instructor at the end of the term or class session.

Some coursework carries letter symbols with no grade point value and no effect on GPA: S (Satisfactory), U (Unsatisfactory), I (Incomplete), R (Repeated Class), W (Withdrawn), AU (Audit), TC (Transfer Credit), LE (Life Experience Credit), AS (Advanced Standing Credit), EX (Credit by Examination), and NS (No Show).

An Incomplete (I) must be resolved by a set deadline in the following term or it converts to an F; a student cannot graduate with an Incomplete on the transcript. A No-Show (NS) is recorded when a student's attendance is not verified within the first 20% of a class.

GPA computation rules

Only the last grade earned counts toward the GPA when a student repeats a course. Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) credits are not counted as units attempted in computing GPA and cannot be used to satisfy prerequisite or graduation requirements.

A 2.00 GPA (or a projected 2.00 GPA) is required for early release from classes. Undertaking an independent-study project requires a 2.5 GPA at the time the project begins, in addition to having completed 50% of the program's required credits.

Academic progression and probation

NWTC monitors all students' credits under its Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAP), applied after a student's first semester and every semester after. Students falling short are placed on Warning, and are strongly encouraged to use Academic Coaching and Tutoring. A student who reaches Not Meets/Suspension status must meet with their academic advisor before the next registration period, or a hold is placed on their account preventing enrollment.

These are minimum college-wide requirements; individual NWTC programs may set higher standards.

Transfer of credit

Coursework from other institutions transfers based on equivalent competencies with a satisfactory grade, defined as a grade of C (2.0 GPA) or better. Credit for Prior Learning awarded as Transfer Credit (TC), Life Experience Credit (LE), Advanced Standing Credit (AS), or Credit by Examination (EX) carries no grade-point value and is not counted toward GPA, but may still be used to satisfy graduation requirements.

How do I convert semester GPA to cumulative GPA at NWTC?
Your cumulative GPA is the credit-weighted average of your semester GPAs across every semester: (semester GPA₁ × credits₁ + … + semester GPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + … + creditsₙ). Save each semester to the tracker on this page, by course or as a quick semester GPA + credits entry, and it works out your cumulative GPA on every save, edit and delete.
Is this NWTC GPA calculator free, and is my data private?
