Grades not counted toward GPA
In addition to letter grades A through F, MCC records several non-punitive marks that do not carry GPA weight: W (withdrawal), S (satisfactory), U (unsatisfactory), P (passing), Au (audit), and I (Incomplete).
These are excluded from GPA calculation: do not include classes for which you received a W, P, I, S, U, or Au, or when duplicate classes have been repeated.

Calculating your GPA
Multiply the number of credit hours for each course by the points (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0) earned for that grade. Add the totals for all classes together, then divide by the total number of credit hours.
The best way to improve your GPA is to retake a class for which you received a D or an F. The original grade remains on your transcript, but only the last grade earned counts in your GPA. There may be limits on the number of times you may repeat the same class.
Poor grades may be excluded from calculation of current academic progress if they were earned at least five years prior (academic renewal).

Satisfactory academic progress
Students must maintain a certain GPA and progress toward a degree or certificate to stay enrolled. Federal financial aid and some scholarships require meeting specific standards for progress.
If a student stops attending class without officially withdrawing, grades will be recorded as F, which affects GPA.

Honor student status
To be an honor student, a student must be enrolled in six semester hours or more and have a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher. Each campus has its own honors program.

Transfer and other credit
Courses taken at other colleges become part of a student's permanent record. Only courses equivalent to those in the student's MCC program can be applied toward an MCC degree or certificate.
Credit may also be earned by examination, up to 30 hours in certain subjects, or by certification for eligible non-college experience related to an MCC program.
