Maryville University GPA Calculator

Maryville uses a 4.0 grading scale: A (4.00), A- (3.67), B+ (3.33), B (3.00), B- (2.67), C+ (2.33), C (2.00), C- (1.67), D (1.00), and F (0.00) grade points per credit. There is no A+ and no D+ or D- anywhere in the scale.

A grade of AF (Attendance Failure), assigned when a student stops participating in a course before the last day to withdraw, "is calculated in the GPA as an 'F,' or zero grade points" — the same 0.00 value as F, but its own transcript label.

Your cumulative GPA is total grade points earned divided by total grade-point-weighted credits completed. Several grades carry no points and are excluded from the GPA entirely: Audit (AU), Delayed Grade (DG, graduate only), Incomplete (I, undergraduate only), Not Available (NA), Not Eligible for Completion (NE), No Pass (NP), Pass (P), and Withdrawal (W).

Repeating a course: if you repeat a course and earn a higher grade, the higher grade is used in the GPA calculation and the lower grade is removed from it. Both grades stay on the transcript, but only the higher one counts toward the GPA.

Undergraduate: a student whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 is placed on academic probation for one semester. If the cumulative GPA is not raised to 2.0 by the end of that semester, the student is placed on academic suspension — unless the semester GPA itself reached 2.0, in which case the student gets one additional semester to raise the cumulative GPA. Suspended students may be considered for reinstatement after two consecutive semesters, with approval from the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Some programs apply more stringent probation policies.

Graduate: a graduate student maintains satisfactory academic progress by keeping a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (on the 4.0 scale) at the end of each semester. A grade of D is not acceptable in graduate programs.

A Bachelor's degree at Maryville requires a minimum of 120 credit hours and a 2.0 ("C") or better cumulative GPA, along with satisfying general education, major, and (if applicable) minor requirements. The last 30 credit hours toward the degree must be taken at Maryville University.

Undergraduate degree-seeking students are named to the Dean's List after completing at least 12 Maryville hours in a fall, spring, or summer semester with a 3.5 or higher semester GPA and no single grade below a B-. Part-time students carrying at least 6 credit hours a semester with the same 3.5 GPA and no-grade-below-B- standard qualify for the Academic Honors List instead.

Graduation honors (minimum 30 undergraduate grade-bearing credit hours at Maryville): cum laude for a cumulative GPA of 3.50-3.69, magna cum laude for 3.70-3.79, and summa cum laude for 3.80 or higher.
