Assessment Components

Course performance is assessed through continuous evaluation across the term, weighted as follows: Mid-term Exam 30, Class Test 20, Attendance and participation 10, Final Exam 40 — total 100. Lab-based courses are evaluated through lab tasks assigned by the teachers instead of this breakdown.

GPA Calculation and Grade Rules

GPA = sum of (Grade Points × Credits) ÷ sum of credits attempted. A '+' or '-' modifier is worth 0.25 grade point. A course graded 'D' or higher counts as earned credit; a course graded 'F' does not count toward earned credit and must be retaken.

An Incomplete ('I') grade may be given for an excused absence from an exam (e.g. serious illness, a death in the family). The student must sit a make-up exam and clear the 'I' within one month of the next term, or it automatically converts to an 'F'.

Academic Probation, Dismissal, and Course Repetition

A student may retake a course graded below a 'B' to try to improve it, re-registering and paying tuition fees as for any other course; if the course is no longer offered, an equivalent course may be substituted for a sufficiently compelling reason.

Undergraduate programs require a minimum CGPA of 2.00 for acceptable academic standing; falling below it places a student on academic probation. Below 60 credits, a maximum of 3 consecutive probation notices is allowed before dismissal; at 60 credits or above, more notices may be granted with Academic Council approval.

Graduate programs require the same minimum CGPA of 2.00, with the same 3-consecutive-notice dismissal threshold below 15 credits, and Academic Council approval required to extend it at 15 credits or above.

Degree Completion Requirements

To graduate, a student must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 in all courses and complete the required number of credits for the program. Undergraduate students must earn at least 50 percent of their required credits at Metropolitan University; graduate students must fulfill the full residency requirement.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at MU?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at MU?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Metropolitan University (MU) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
