How grading works at University of Peshawar
UoP uses an absolute grading system: your percentage of marks in a course maps to a letter grade and grade point on a 1.0–4.0 scale, based on fixed marks thresholds set by the university, not a comparison to classmates. Marks obtained are rounded to the nearest whole mark before a grade is assigned — for example, 60.3% is treated as 60%, while 49.5% or higher rounds up to 50%.
The letter grades used are A, B, C, D and F, plus the non-graded I (Incomplete), W (Withdrawal) and P (Pass, for non-credit courses). The exact marks-to-grade-point mapping is shown in the Grade Scale Reference on this page.

How University of Peshawar calculates GPA and CGPA
Your Grade Point Average (GPA) for a semester is the sum of each course's grade points (percentage value multiplied by its credit hours) divided by the total credit hours attempted that semester. Your Cumulative GPA (CGPA) is the same calculation across all completed semesters. Both are rounded to two decimal places.
- A W (withdrawn) course's credit hours are excluded from the GPA/CGPA calculation entirely — it is not treated as an F.
- If you repeat a course you already took, the old grade is replaced by the new grade for CGPA purposes; if you instead take a different course in place of one you failed, both grades remain on your transcript.
- Graduate (Master's/M.Phil) students with a C grade may repeat up to three courses to improve it.

Academic probation and dismissal at University of Peshawar
An undergraduate whose CGPA falls below 2.0 is conditionally promoted and placed on first probation for the next semester. If the CGPA is still below 2.0 at the end of that semester, the student moves to last probation. A student who fails to raise their CGPA to the required minimum after last probation is dropped from the institute and cannot be re-admitted to that same institute.
A student who fails a course (an F grade) must repeat it whenever it is next offered; a student may repeat up to six failed courses across the whole programme.
