How Sask Polytech grades courses
Saskatchewan Polytechnic grades credit courses with a numeric percentage mark. It does not use letter grades or grade points. Each percentage range carries a word descriptor, from Excellent at the top to Failure below the pass mark.
Alongside percentages, it uses alternative assessment codes such as Pass (P), Credit (CR), Complete (CO), Incomplete (IN), Aegrotat (AEG), Withdrawal (W) and Withdrawal failure (WF). An Incomplete converts to a failure if the requirements are not completed within six months of the course end date.

How the GPA is calculated
At Sask Polytech, a grade point average is a percentage between 0 and 100, not a 4-point value. The school calculates three GPAs: term GPA, program GPA and cumulative GPA. Each one is the sum of grade points divided by the credits completed, so a course with more credits weighs more.
- Only courses with a percentage value count. Aegrotat standing is not included.
- If you take a course more than once, only the highest grade counts in the GPA, but every attempt stays on your transcript.
- A Withdrawal failure (WF) counts as 0% in the cumulative average.
- Only credit courses completed at Sask Polytech count. Transfer credit grades are excluded.

Minimum GPA to progress
The minimum passing grade for a course is 50%. Passing a course is not enough to progress, though. You need a term GPA of at least 60%, whatever your course load, and a program GPA of at least 60% to continue in your program. GPAs are also used to decide Dean's Honour List standing, academic probation and any requirement to discontinue.

GPA needed to graduate
To graduate and receive a Sask Polytech credential you need:
- all course and program requirements completed, with a program GPA and a cumulative GPA of at least 60%;
- at least 50% of the required course credits earned at Sask Polytech;
- good standing at graduation (incomplete work, an active misconduct case or unpaid tuition can delay graduation);
- all required work-integrated learning components completed.

Transfer credit and your GPA
Transfer credit appears on the transcript as TC, with no grade, and it is never included in your GPA. Transfer credit may not exceed 50% of the credits required for graduation.
If you fail a Sask Polytech course and then take an equivalent course elsewhere for transfer credit, the original fail grade stays on your transcript but is no longer counted in your GPA.
