How grades are determined

Grading policies are set by the individual faculty member and included in each course syllabus. If a course syllabus does not state a grading policy, the college applies a default percentage-to-letter conversion table to determine the final course grade.

Final grades are posted for every scheduled course within 72 hours of the last day of classes. A student who believes a grade was recorded in error may appeal through the Student Grievance Procedure.

What counts toward your GPA

An unofficial withdrawal (WF) counts toward the cumulative GPA and toward Satisfactory Academic Progress pace; an official withdrawal (W) does not count toward the GPA but does count toward pace.

Grades earned in developmental courses are not computed into the cumulative GPA (and are not included in pace), since developmental coursework does not satisfy requirements in any degree, program, or major.

Students may repeat a course once without permission of the Registrar; for a repeated course, the higher of the two grades is applied to the student's GPA calculation and to graduation requirements.

Transferability of low grades

Grades of D and below are generally not transferable or applicable to programs of study at other colleges and universities.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my average at BCC?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's average, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in tracker, which then computes your overall average across every saved semester using the standard credit-weighted formula (Σ average × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course or quick-add a past semester with just its average and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running overall average plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
Can I add past semesters without entering every course?
Yes. On the tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option, then enter just the semester's percentage average and its credit hours — no course-by-course breakdown required. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters mix freely; both contribute to your overall average through the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Bristol Community College (BCC) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
