Repeated Courses, Incompletes, and Pass/Fail

When a course is repeated at Utica University, the lower of the two grades is removed from the calculation of the student’s cumulative average; if repeated more than once, only the lowest grade is excluded and all others are factored into the GPA. Credit is awarded only once regardless of how many times the course is taken, and each attempt remains on the transcript. Equivalent courses taken at other institutions are not counted as repeats.

A grade of Incomplete (“I”) remains a permanent part of the record until changed to a final grade.

In Pass/Fail courses, a passing grade of “P” earns no grade points and the credit hours are not computed in the semester or cumulative average; a failing grade is recorded as “F” and is computed into the average.

Probation and Academic Suspension

Academic standing is reviewed at the close of each semester based on cumulative GPA and credit hours carried, on a sliding scale that tightens as credit hours increase:

Credit Hours CarriedSuspensionProbation rangeGood Standing
0–260.00–1.992.00–4.00
27–560.00–0.991.00–1.992.00–4.00
57–810.00–1.451.46–1.992.00–4.00
82–1000.00–1.751.76–1.992.00–4.00
101–1100.00–1.851.86–1.992.00–4.00
111 and over0.00–1.951.96–1.992.00–4.00

Students with very poor academic records (typically below a 0.5 GPA) may be dismissed without first being placed on probation. A student who meets the criteria for suspension but posts a semester GPA of 2.0 or higher in the most recent semester is placed on probation instead of suspended. Suspended students may apply for readmission after an absence of one full regular semester; a second suspension is a permanent dismissal, appealable to the Academic Standards Committee.

GPA Requirements for Graduation

To be approved for graduation, a student must have a cumulative average of at least 2.0, and at least a 2.0 average in their major course requirements (including Major Course Requirements, Concentration, and Major-Related courses). A student’s last 30 credit hours toward the degree must be earned from Utica University courses with matriculated status.

Dean's List and Graduation Honors

The Dean’s Honor List recognizes students completing 12 or more credit hours in a semester with a semester average of 3.4 or better; the Dean’s High Honor List requires a semester average of 4.0. Pass/fail courses do not count toward the 12-hour requirement. Part-time matriculated students taking 6–11 credit hours are also eligible for both lists.

Graduation honors require an average of 3.4–3.59 for cum laude, 3.6–3.79 for magna cum laude, and 3.8–4.0 for summa cum laude, plus at least 36 credit hours of Utica University graded coursework at the 300- and 400-levels. For students who transfer in, graduation honors are computed on Utica University credit alone.

Transfer, AP, IB, and CLEP Credit and the GPA

Credit awarded for Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams does not affect a student’s Utica University grade point average. Courses transferred from another institution satisfy graduation requirements but are excluded from calculations of cumulative or program-specific grade point average — except for graduation-honors purposes for transfer students, where records from the previous institution are included in the GPA computation only if doing so would lower (not raise) the student’s average relative to their Utica-only average.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at Utica University?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at Utica University?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Utica University GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
