Christopher Newport University (CNU) GPA Calculator

Christopher Newport University calculates a single cumulative GPA from CNU coursework only: total grade points earned divided by total credit hours attempted at CNU. Transfer credit from other institutions is not included in this calculation, though it does count toward credit hours earned for the degree.

Students with at least junior standing and a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher may take up to 12 credit hours (maximum 6 per term) under the pass/fail option, excluding liberal learning, major, minor, and graduate-level courses. A grade of P (earned with a D- or higher) is not computed in the cumulative GPA, but a grade of F earned in a pass/fail course is still computed into it.

A grade of Incomplete (I) is temporary and converts automatically to F if the required work is not completed and a grade-change form submitted by the published deadline.

For most repeated courses, only the grade, credit, and grade points from the most recent enrollment count toward the cumulative GPA and graduation requirements; courses retaken after graduation do not replace the original grade, and both attempts remain on the record.

Transfer credit accepted by Christopher Newport University counts toward the credit hours required for a degree, but is not included in the calculation of a student's cumulative GPA at CNU — only coursework taken at CNU factors into grade points and credit hours attempted.
