Dutchess Community College (DCC), SUNY GPA Calculator

Term GPA is found by multiplying each course's quality points (per the letter grade earned) by its credit hours, summing those totals across all courses, then dividing by the total credit hours attempted and rounding to the nearest hundredth. Cumulative GPA is computed the same way across all credit work completed at the College.

The following notations carry no quality-point value and are not calculated into the GPA: I, PL, J, P, T, U, W, WA, WS, WZ, PA, NR, NC. A grade followed by a "#" (developmental course) is also excluded from the GPA regardless of the letter grade itself.

When a course is repeated, only the highest grade and quality points earned are used in computing the cumulative GPA.

A grade of Incomplete ("I") must be resolved within the first four weeks of the next fall or spring semester or it automatically becomes an "F"; a faculty member may otherwise change a submitted grade up to one year after it was first recorded.

Students who have not enrolled in DCC credit classes for at least three consecutive years and have D or F grades on their transcript may apply, once and before graduating, for the Fresh Start Rule, under which all D and F grades are made non-applicable on the transcript.

A student is "in good academic standing" when making satisfactory progress toward a certificate or degree and meeting the cumulative GPA required for the number of credits attempted. Students falling below the required standard may be placed on probation (reasonable promise of improvement) or dismissed; full-time students on probation are restricted to a maximum 14-credit course load and must complete six credits at C or better to be reinstated to full-time status.

A student may repeat a course once after failing it or falling short of the grade required for the next course in sequence; repeating it again requires the written permission of the department chair.

Candidates for degrees and certificates from Dutchess Community College must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better and must complete at least 24 credit hours of coursework at DCC. Certificate candidates likewise need an overall cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher to be awarded the certificate.

Students earning a QPA/CPA of 3.75 or better, with no grade below C, on a minimum of 12 academic or degree credits in the semester are named to the President's List. A QPA/CPA of 3.2 to 3.74 under the same conditions earns the Dean's List, and 3.0 to 3.19 earns an Academic Citation noted on the transcript. Part-time students qualify by reaching the same QPA/CPA thresholds for each full-time-equivalent semester (12 credit hours) completed.
