How the GPA is calculated
The GPA is obtained by dividing the total number of grade points earned at Touro University by the total number of course credits completed, except for courses graded "P."
- "P" (Pass) is not included in the GPA.
- "W" (official withdrawal, no penalty) is not included in the GPA, though it counts toward credits attempted for Satisfactory Academic Progress.
- "WNA" (never attended) is not included in the GPA but appears on the transcript.
- "INC" (Incomplete) does not affect the GPA until resolved; if later changed to an F, the F is then calculated in.
Students may repeat a failed or passed course to improve their GPA (limits and Dean approval apply). The earlier attempt is marked "E" (Excluded, not calculated in the GPA) and the later attempt "I" (Included) — only the second grade earned counts, whether higher or lower.
Baccalaureate candidates may take one course per semester on a Pass/Fail basis (sophomore through senior year, six courses maximum); required courses and major/minor courses are not eligible.

Probation and dismissal
Students are placed on probation when they fail to maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average. Probationary students are given one semester to raise their GPA to 2.5, or two semesters to raise it to 2.0; those who do not reach 2.0 within the designated time may be dismissed from the University.
A student admitted on probation is removed from probation upon completing 12 credits with a 2.5 GPA, or 24 credits with a 2.0 GPA.
Some departments require a GPA higher than 2.0; students who fail to meet a departmental standard may be required to change their concentration or major.

Minimum GPA to graduate
To graduate, students must achieve an overall GPA of at least 2.00 (a "C" average) for classes taken at Touro. Within the major or concentration, students must achieve an average of 2.30 (a "C+" average); some departments require a higher average. Baccalaureate candidates must complete at least 45 credits in residence at Touro; Associate's/certificate candidates at least 24 credits in residence, with at least 50% of major and minor coursework completed at Touro University.

Dean's List and graduation honors
A student is eligible for the Dean's List in a given semester by completing 12 or more credits with a GPA of 3.4 or higher; courses completed abroad or outside Touro University do not count.
In the Lander Colleges, NYSCAS, and the School for Lifelong Education, Latin honors at graduation (Baccalaureate candidates with at least 60 credits completed at Touro) are:
| Honor | GPA |
|---|---|
| Summa Cum Laude | 3.80 or higher |
| Magna Cum Laude | 3.60-3.79 |
| Cum Laude | 3.40-3.59 |
Associate's candidates: Academic Excellence (3.70 or higher) or Academic Distinction (3.50-3.69). Each division sets its own honors standards, so requirements can vary outside these three divisions.

Transfer credit and GPA
Transfer credit is granted only for coursework completed with a grade of C or better at an accredited institution. Students who have completed an associate's degree at an accredited institution receive up to 60 transfer credits, subject to Touro's course and liberal-arts requirements. All transferred courses are posted on the Touro transcript without grades, so transfer credit does not affect the Touro cumulative GPA.
