How SUU Calculates GPA
Southern Utah University's cumulative GPA is calculated by dividing the total grade points earned by the total GPA hours accumulated (SUU Policy #6.13).
Several grade notations are excluded from the GPA, graduation-hour count, and total-hours-completed count entirely: AU (Audit), I (Incomplete), NC (No credit), T (Temporary, for courses continuing into a following term), P (Passed, in a pass/fail course), W (Withdrawal), and NR (incomplete graduate thesis or project). A "Z" grade, recorded when an instructor submits no grade, converts to an F if not resolved within one calendar year.
For repeated courses, the highest grade earned counts toward the GPA for non-repeatable courses, with earlier attempts excluded from both credits and grades; for repeatable courses, the most recent attempt must remain in the GPA, though earlier attempts may be excluded at the student's request.
