Mercer County Community College (MCCC) GPA Calculator

Academic Foundations courses (ENG0--, MAT0--) are graded A through C, NC, X, W, WI, WA, WN, N, CIP, and I. Other remedial, developmental, and preparatory courses are graded S, NC, X, W, WI, WA, WN, N, CIP, and I. All other credit courses are graded A through F, X, W, WI, WA, WN, N, CIP, and I.

A student's quality point average (QPA) each semester is computed by multiplying the quality point value of each grade by the number of credits for that course, adding the results, and dividing by the number of credits attempted that semester. Grades in courses numbered below 100 do not count toward the QPA.

Repeating Courses: students may repeat courses; only the most recent grade counts in QPA calculations, unless that grade is S, NC, X, W, WI, or WA, in which case an earlier grade is used instead. Prior grades remain on the transcript. A student repeating a course for the third time or more needs written approval from the appropriate division dean.

Students begin in Good Standing, maintained by passing enrolled courses and keeping a satisfactory cumulative GPA. A student who completes 12 or more semester hours with a cumulative GPA below 2.0, or who fails to earn at least 50% of attempted credits for two or more consecutive semesters, may receive an academic sanction of warning, probation, continued probation, suspension, or dismissal; externally accredited programs may apply different standards.

• A GPA below 2.0 can result in academic warning (credit load capped at 13) or academic probation (credit load capped at 10) the following semester.
• Remaining below 2.0 while on probation can affect financial aid and VA education-benefit eligibility, and some programs may dismiss a student from the program, though the student may continue other MCCC coursework.
• A cumulative GPA still below 2.0 after the first semester of probation can lead to dismissal from the College, requiring a semester off and an approved Success Plan before returning.
• Sanctions and dismissals may be appealed to the Academic Standing Committee.

Degree and certificate candidates must complete the semester hours specified by the program (typically 60 to 66), including at least 15 credits earned at Mercer County Community College (at least 6 of which must be at the 200 level in the student's major). A minimum quality point average of 2.00 is required for all work applied toward a degree or certificate, with a minimum C grade required in any course designated crucial to the major.

General Education credit minimums vary by award: 45 credits for the Associate in Arts, 30 for the Associate in Science, 21 for the Associate in Applied Science, 21 for the Associate in Fine Arts, and 6 for credit-bearing certificates.

Students generally have up to 10 years from initial matriculation to complete degree requirements under the catalog in effect at that time (5 years for allied health and flight technology programs), provided attendance is continuous.
