Final grades may be revised by the instructor, with the dean's office's approval, for one semester after the course was offered (one year for graduate students) unless the degree has already been conferred; after that, or once a degree is conferred, grades become permanent. A grade change is submitted only for a recording or calculation error, or when the student and instructor agree to reevaluate all work from the semester.

A student may appeal a grade within 60 days of it being posted (30 days if the student has petitioned to graduate), first by discussing it with the instructor and then, if unresolved, through a written appeal escalating from the instructor to the department chair or director and ultimately the dean, who makes the final decision.

The semester GPA is computed by multiplying the credits earned in each course by the grade's numerical value, totaling the grade points for all courses, and dividing by the total graded credits attempted, including failed courses. The cumulative GPA divides total quality points earned by total graded credits attempted; credits transferred from another institution are not included in the cumulative GPA.

Grades of W, I, N, P, AP, NA, NG, and GM are not figured into the GPA. An unresolved grade of Incomplete (I) or missing grade (GM) converts permanently: for undergraduates, to F at the end of the seventh week of the following semester; for graduate students, to N one year after the course's end date.

Undergraduates may elect up to one course per semester for Pass/Fail grading (maximum 12 credits total; individual programs may set a lower cap), earning a Pass for a grade of D or higher. The option is unavailable for core, major, or minor requirements (except a first course taken before declaring the major) and for courses graded Pass/Fail only, and elections must be made by the seventh week of the semester.
