Grading System

Tarrant County College assigns five grade-point-bearing letter grades: A (excellent), B (good), C (average), D (passing), and F (failure). Additional notations that carry no grade points include I (incomplete), W (approved withdrawal), CR (credit), NC (noncredit), AU (audit), and WA (audit withdrawal).

A grade of D is not transferable to other institutions and is not considered passing in developmental courses.

GPA Calculation

Grade point average (GPA) is found by dividing the total number of grade points by the total number of semester hours attempted. Grades of CR, NC, W, I, AU, or WA, and grades earned for work in developmental courses, do not affect the GPA.

When a course is repeated, only the highest grade earned is used to calculate the cumulative GPA (effective fall 2003).

An Incomplete ("I") not resolved by the last day of the next long semester automatically converts to an "F."

Academic Standing

Academic standing is based on a student's cumulative and semester GPA and determines eligibility to continue enrollment.

  • Good Standing - cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Academic Probation - cumulative GPA below 2.0; the student may continue to enroll while earning a 2.0 semester GPA.
  • Academic Suspension I - a student on probation who becomes ineligible to re-enroll is suspended for at least one long semester (fall or spring, including summer).
  • Academic Suspension II - a second suspension results in exclusion for one long semester (fall or spring; no summer enrollment).
  • Academic Dismissal - a student readmitted after a second suspension who does not maintain a 2.0 semester GPA is dismissed and must remain out of the college for at least one calendar year.

How do I convert semester GPA to cumulative GPA at TCCD?
Your cumulative GPA is the credit-weighted average of your semester GPAs across every semester: (semester GPA₁ × credits₁ + … + semester GPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + … + creditsₙ). Save each semester to the tracker on this page, by course or as a quick semester GPA + credits entry, and it works out your cumulative GPA on every save, edit and delete.
Is this TCCD GPA calculator free, and is my data private?
Yes. GPAWise is free, with no signup, and your courses and saved semesters stay in your browser: nothing is sent to our servers. "Clear all tracker data" on the tracker wipes them at any time.
