Texas State Technical College (TSTC) GPA Calculator

Grade points earned for a course are the grade's point value multiplied by the course's credit hours. The GPA is the total grade points divided by the credit hours attempted for which a grade was awarded.

• The Term GPA covers college-level courses graded in that term (developmental education courses are excluded).
• The Cumulative GPA covers all college-level courses and grades earned since enrolling at TSTC (developmental education excluded); it is used to qualify students for graduation and graduation honors.
• The Standards of Progress GPA (term and cumulative) includes developmental education courses and is used for scholastic standing, term honors and financial aid eligibility.

When a student repeats a course in which the first grade earned was below an "A," the first grade is not calculated into the cumulative GPA — only the last grade issued counts, whether higher or lower than the first.

A student who maintains a minimum 2.00 Standards of Progress cumulative and term GPA is in good academic standing.

A student whose Standards of Progress cumulative or term GPA falls below 2.00 is placed on scholastic probation, and is removed from probation once both GPAs are 2.00 or higher again.

A student on scholastic probation whose Standards of Progress term and cumulative GPA are still below 2.00 is placed on scholastic suspension for a period set by the College (minimum one semester). A suspended student may apply for a waiver; a student who returns after suspension (with or without a waiver) is placed back on scholastic probation.

To be certified for graduation, a student must, among other requirements:

• Satisfactorily complete all required coursework.
• Earn at least 25% of the program's required credit hours at TSTC.
• Reach a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
• Meet the program's grading requirement: C or better in all major courses for coursework taken in traditional format, or B or better in all major courses for coursework taken in Performance-Based Education (PBE) format.
• Have all accepted transfer credit applied and on file.

Students generally have five years from initial enrollment to complete a degree or certificate under the catalog requirements in effect at the time of that enrollment.

Term honors: full-time students with a Standards of Progress term GPA of 3.50–3.99 are recognized on the Vice Chancellor's Honor Roll ("Scholastic Excellence"); a term GPA of 4.00 is recognized on the Chancellor's Honor Roll.

Graduation honors (Associate Degree, Applied Associate Degree, or credit-based Certificate of Completion), based on cumulative GPA: Board of Regents Honors at 4.00, With Honors at 3.50–3.99. Graduation honors appear on the official transcript.

Transfer credit is processed by the Office of the Registrar using the Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS) Transfer Guide for courses from state institutions. Transfer coursework must carry a grade of "D" or better in general, but grades below "C" are not accepted for transfer toward major or major-related courses. Credit from other colleges or universities requires approval from the subject-matter expert in the student's program area; courses not listed in TCCNS, or from out-of-state or foreign institutions, are forwarded for department review. Transfer credit disputes are decided by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Instructional Alignment & Innovation or designee.
