Grade Symbols That Don't Count Toward GPA
Beyond the A-F letter grades, Georgia Piedmont Technical College uses several symbols that appear on a transcript but are not included in the grade point average: W (Withdrawn before the mid-point, without penalty), I (Incomplete - automatically becomes an F if not resolved by the end of the following semester, with a maximum 12-month extension in some circumstances), IP (In Progress, Continuing Education courses only), S/U (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory, non-graded Continuing Education courses only), AC (Articulated Credit), AU (Audit - no credit), and EX (Credit by Exam).
A grade followed by an asterisk (*) indicates a Learning Support course; a Learning Support grade is not counted in a student's earned hours or cumulative GPA.
By contrast, WF (Withdrawn - Failing) carries the same grade points as an F and does count toward GPA.

How GPTC Calculates GPA
A grade point average is computed by multiplying the credit hours assigned to a course by the grade points earned, summing those totals across all courses, and dividing by the total credit hours attempted at Georgia Piedmont Technical College.
All courses and grades earned at Georgia Piedmont Tech are calculated into a student's cumulative GPA. Credits earned at other institutions, credit by examination, and other courses where non-letter symbols are assigned are not used in calculating the cumulative GPA.

A student on Academic Probation is suspended from the college if their cumulative GPA is below 1.75 and their GPA for the term is below 2.0.
