University of Toronto (U of T) GPA Calculator

U of T uses a refined letter-grade system on a 0.0–4.0 scale: A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, F. Every course mark (an integer from 0 to 100) converts to exactly one of these 13 grades under the Governing Council's University Assessment and Grading Practices Policy — A+ and A both carry 4.0 grade points (90–100% and 85–89% respectively), down to F at 0.0 grade points (0–49%).

This is a single, university-wide policy: the same scale applies without exception at all three campuses — St. George, University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM), and University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC). Individual divisions and faculties may add their own procedural regulations (course-load limits, probation thresholds, honours cutoffs) on top of it, but none may alter the grade-point or percentage table itself.

Graduate programs use a separate, truncated scale (A+ through B-, with C/D/F all replaced by a single FZ fail symbol) that is not covered here.

Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is the weighted sum of the grade points you've earned, divided by the number of credits in which grade points were earned — a full-credit course is weighted as 1.0, a half-credit course as 0.5.

The Faculty of Arts & Science calculates three GPAs: Sessional GPA (SGPA), up to three times a year from each term's marks; Annual GPA (AGPA), once per Fall/Winter Session; and Cumulative GPA (CGPA), which considers every individual course you've completed to that point.

Courses taken as Credit/No Credit (CR/NCR) are excluded from GPA calculations entirely, and so are transfer credits from other institutions — neither counts toward your GPA or your Dean's List credit total.

At the Faculty of Arts & Science, you're placed on academic probation once your Cumulative GPA falls below 1.50, or when you return from a suspension. While on probation, your course load is capped at 2.5 credits per Fall or Winter term and 1.0 credit per Summer term.

Suspension follows if your Cumulative GPA remains below 1.50 and your relevant term GPA (Annual or Sessional) also falls below 1.70.

These specific probation/suspension thresholds are a Faculty of Arts & Science regulation (St. George campus) layered on top of the university-wide grading scale — other divisions and the Mississauga/Scarborough campuses may set their own course-load and standing rules under the same Governing Council policy.

To obtain an Honours Bachelor's degree (HBA/HBSc) at the Faculty of Arts & Science, you must obtain a Cumulative GPA of 1.85 or more by the time of graduation.

Graduating with a higher CGPA earns a diploma notation, based on at least 5.0 credits taken for Faculty of Arts & Science degree credit:

• With High Distinction — Cumulative GPA of 3.50 or above.
• With Distinction — Cumulative GPA of 3.20 to 3.49.

You may repeat a course you've already passed only once. Normally, both attempts appear on your record and both marks count toward your GPA. Under the Second Attempt for Credit option, though, if your second attempt earns a higher mark, the first attempt can be designated "Extra" (up to 2.0 credits over your degree) — an Extra attempt is dropped from both your GPA and your degree-credit count, leaving only the second attempt to count.

Transfer credits from other institutions are excluded from all GPA computations and from Dean's List credit counting, and courses taken CR/NCR are excluded from GPA calculations the same way.
