Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak GPA Calculator

Swinburne Sarawak grades every unit on a fixed, university-wide scale from High Distinction (HD) down to Fail (N), each carrying a fixed grade point on a 0.00-4.00 scale — see the Grade Scale Reference above for the exact marks bands and point values. It is an absolute scale (the same marks bands apply to every unit), not one curved against a class's own results.

A mark of 50 or above is always a Pass (HD, D, C, or P); 44 and below is always a Fail (N). The 45-49 band is printed twice in the university's own table — once as a Pass-status "Conceded Pass" (CP) and once as a Fail-status "Fail" (N) — both carrying the identical grade point. The Regulations don't spell out what determines which of the two a given 45-49 result receives, only how a Conceded Pass may be used once granted: an undergraduate may graduate with at most one Conceded Pass across their whole course, it cannot satisfy a prerequisite requirement, and it isn't available to a student enrolled in a single unit of study.

Re-sit examinations were discontinued university-wide from January 2015, aligning Sarawak's exam processes with the Melbourne campus; a separate Supplementary Assessment process (resulting in a Passed Supplementary or Failed Supplementary result) remains available to eligible students instead.

Swinburne Sarawak reports a semester GPA and a cumulative CGPA, calculated the same way: total grade points earned, divided by the number of units enrolled (GPA: for that semester alone; CGPA: across the current semester and every previous one).

Failed units are included in this calculation by default, the same as any other grade — a Fail's 0.00 grade point pulls the average down like any other result. A one-time exception applied only to Semester 2, 2021 results, letting eligible students apply to have specific failed or passed units omitted from the calculation; that application window has since closed and does not apply to any other semester.

Swinburne Sarawak reviews academic progress every teaching period. A student becomes formally "at risk" of unsatisfactory progress if they fail, or aren't assessed as competent in, half or more of their enrolled units, credit points, or scheduled hours in a single review period (a "more than half" threshold applies instead to a part-time domestic student) — or if they fail the same unit for a second time.

If that condition repeats across two consecutive review periods, or a student fails the same unit a third time, the University may issue a formal show-cause notice. Depending on the student's response, consequences can include conditions on the next period's enrolment or performance, a formal probationary status (which may require attending workshops or meetings with staff), losing a scholarship, a required leave of absence, being required to transfer to another course, or exclusion from the course for up to two years — after which the student may apply to re-enrol, subject to that course's normal admission requirements at the time.

A student repeating a unit must complete the same assessment requirements as anyone else taking it — repeating is not a shortcut. Separately, a student must not repeat, or re-enrol in the equivalent of, a unit they've already passed in a higher education course, unless achieving a specific grade in that unit is itself a requirement for enrolling in a later unit.

To be conferred an award, a student must satisfy the requirements set for their specific course (as determined by that course's own accreditation instrument) and meet the University's other administrative requirements — the Regulations state eligibility this way rather than printing one flat, university-wide minimum CGPA to graduate.

In practice every unit that counts toward a course must be completed at a Pass grade or better: the Regulations' own grade schedule marks High Distinction, Distinction, Credit, Pass, and Conceded Pass as "Final (complete)," while a Fail is explicitly marked "Final (incomplete)" — so a failed unit does not satisfy a course requirement on its own.

Undergraduate students must also complete a minimum share of their course's total learning at Swinburne itself, rather than through credit granted for outside study — see academic credit, below.

Final Honours classification for Higher Education courses is banded by overall result: First Class Honours (H1) for 80-100, Second Class Honours A (H2A) for 70-79, Second Class Honours B (H2B) for 60-69, and Third Class Honours (H3) for 50-59 — unless a specific course's own accreditation instrument sets different Honours grades. Individual Honours-unit results otherwise use the same grading scale as the rest of the course (see the Grade Scale Reference above).

Swinburne Sarawak may grant academic credit toward a course for prior post-secondary study or relevant work experience, as block credit, as a unit-for-unit exemption, or (for vocational education courses) as recognition of prior learning. For a higher education course, credit can only be granted in full for an equivalent unit — partial credit for a single unit is not permitted.

A Conceded Pass result specifically cannot be used as the basis for academic credit toward a higher education course if it was earned at a different institution; a Conceded Pass earned in another Swinburne course, however, can be used for credit, taking into account that unit's status.

Regardless of credit granted, a minimum share of a course's total learning must still come from study at Swinburne itself: at least 33% of the accredited volume of learning for an undergraduate course, and at least 50% for a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, or Master's course (25% of assessment for a vocational education course, barring exceptional circumstances).
