GPA Calculation Rules

If a course is repeated, only the best grade is considered for calculating the GPA; the lesser grade remains on the transcript but is excluded from the GPA calculation.

The minimum passing grade is D. A D is not considered passing for developmental courses, and some institutions do not accept a D in transfer.

Students may exercise one of two one-time grade forgiveness options to exclude a full semester's grades from the total institution GPA: deleting grades for one semester taken more than two years before current enrollment, or deleting grades for one semester after attempting sixty or more hours at Tarleton. All courses and grades from the forgiven semester remain visible on the transcript, and the exclusion applies to every grade that semester, not only low or failing ones. The student must be enrolled at Tarleton at the time of the request.

Academic Standing, Warning, Probation, and Suspension

The minimum acceptable academic standard is a 2.00 total institutional GPA. A student with a 2.00 or better total institutional GPA is considered in good academic standing.

A student in good standing whose total institutional GPA falls between 1.00 and 1.99 is placed on academic warning for the next long semester. If the total institutional GPA is still between 1.00 and 1.99 the following long semester, a semester GPA of 2.00 or higher results in probation, while a semester GPA below 2.00 results in suspension. A total institutional GPA of 2.00 or above at the end of the semester returns the student to good standing.

Suspension lengths: first suspension, one long semester; second suspension, one calendar year; third suspension, indefinite (readmission may be requested after three years but is not guaranteed).
