Frederick Community College (FCC) GPA Calculator

GPA is calculated by multiplying the credit hours for each course attempted by the quality points corresponding to the grade earned, then dividing the total quality points by the number of credit hours attempted.

The following grades carry no quality points and are not used in calculating the GPA: I (Incomplete), AU (Audit), S (Satisfactory), U (Unsatisfactory), P (Pass), Z (In Progress), DX (Clemency/Passing), FX (Clemency/Failing), and W (Withdrawal).

Academic standing is assessed once a student has attempted six cumulative credits. Good Standing requires a cumulative GPA of 2.000 or higher and successful completion of at least 50% of cumulative credits attempted. Falling below either threshold results in Academic Warning, then Academic Restriction if progress is not made, then Academic Suspension for one fall or spring semester and any preceding summer term, then Academic Dismissal for two semesters and any preceding summer term if progress is still not made.

When a course is repeated, only the highest grade earned counts in the cumulative GPA, with the most recent grade counted if the two grades are the same; the counted attempt is marked "RI" on the transcript and excluded attempts are marked "RP".

Returning students may apply once, after a two-year absence, for Academic Clemency to exclude up to 24 credits of "D" or failing grades (marked "DX"/"FX" on the transcript) from GPA calculations; courses required for the student's program are not eligible.

Degrees, certificates, and Letters of Recognition are awarded to students who complete a prescribed curriculum with a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or better. Students in the Associate of Arts in Teaching (A.A.T.) program must achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better.

The Dean's List recognizes students who have earned at least 12 cumulative credits and complete at least 6 credits in a semester with a semester GPA of 3.500 or better.

Degrees are awarded with Honors for a cumulative GPA of 3.500-3.749, and with High Honors for a cumulative GPA of 3.750 or better; certificates are awarded with Distinction for a cumulative GPA of 3.750 or higher. The Honors College requires 12 honors credits and an overall cumulative GPA of 3.250 or higher.

Credits transferred to FCC are recorded on the transcript, but the corresponding grades are not calculated into the cumulative GPA. Up to 75% of the credits required for an associate degree or certificate may be applied from transfer credit.
