How grading works at Christ University
Christ University uses an absolute grading system: "Grades are awarded based on absolute grading" — your grade is set by fixed percentage bands published in the university's handbook, not adjusted against how your class performed.
The handbook states the university "follows a 4-point grading system," but adds that "the final transcripts will also show grading on a 10-point scale" — both figures are printed side by side in the grading table for the same percentage bands, so a transcript carries two parallel scores for the same result.
The same grade letters and bands are repeated for general/majority programmes and for BTech. The School of Architecture uses the same letters and bands but sets its own, stricter minimum pass mark of 45% aggregate per course, one band higher than the 40% floor that applies everywhere else. What counts toward your CGPA at Christ University
Two categories of coursework are explicitly kept out of your CGPA:
- Bridge courses — introductory, non-credit courses assigned to students who need to build up proficiency in a discipline. They're assessed pass/fail on Continuous Internal Assessment and appear on your transcript, but the handbook states a bridge course "will not be included in the calculation of CGPA."
- Additional credits — extra courses or approved co-curricular credits (up to 6 credits per semester) taken over and above your regular programme curriculum. These are listed on your transcript and count toward your total credits earned and the Academic Bank of Credits, but the handbook is explicit that "the additional credits will not be counted for the calculation of GPA/CGPA."
Only credits from your regular programme curriculum feed into your GPA and CGPA.

Repeating and improving courses at Christ University
Failing on Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA). If you fail one or more courses because of low CIA marks but still pass the end-semester component, you can apply for a CIA repeat — the handbook sets out programme-specific windows for this, with application periods opened twice a year and announced by the Office of Examinations.
Failing the End Semester Examination (ESE). If you fail a course because of insufficient ESE marks, you must repeat the ESE — your "existing CIA marks will remain valid" and aren't reassessed.
Improving a passed course. If you don't meet the semester's required aggregate, you get a chance to improve one or more courses during the supplementary examinations. You can choose to improve your CIA only, your ESE only, or both.
Which score counts. The handbook is explicit: "in improvement attempts, the higher score obtained in the assessment component will be considered" — so an improvement attempt can only raise your result, never lower it.
