How grading works at Bowie State University

Bowie State University (BSU) uses a plain letter-grade system — A, B, C, D, and F — with no plus or minus modifiers at any level. There is no A+ grade at BSU. The University Policy on Grading Symbol Identification also lists a set of additional notations (S, U, I, PS, CR, AU, W) that instructors may use for satisfactory/unsatisfactory work, incompletes, pass grades, audits, and withdrawals; one policy governs both undergraduate and graduate transcripts, with a single stated exception — a grade of D is not used for graduate courses.

Repeating a course at Bowie State University

You may repeat a course to increase your mastery of the material, to meet a major requirement, or to improve your GPA. A course cannot be repeated more than twice without the approval of your academic advisor and the chair of the department you're majoring in. When you repeat a course, only your higher (or highest) grade counts toward your GPA — your transcript marks a repeated course as either REXC (excluded from the GPA calculation) or RINC (included in the GPA calculation) depending on which attempt is being counted.

Academic probation at Bowie State University

Your academic progress at BSU is judged solely on your cumulative GPA. A cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 is considered satisfactory. If your cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 at the end of any semester, you'll be placed on academic probation and notified in writing to seek counseling and guidance from the Academic Advisement Center.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at BSU?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at BSU?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Bowie State University (BSU) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
Does Bowie State University give an A+?

No. BSU's grading policy lists a closed set of symbols — A, B, C, D, F, and S as the core grades, plus U, I, PS, CR, AU, and W as additional notations — and A+ does not appear among them. There are also no plus/minus modifiers of any kind at BSU; the highest grade is a plain A, worth 4.00 grade points.

Is a D grade used for graduate courses at Bowie State University?

No. BSU's grading policy explicitly notes that D (Poor/Below Average, 1.00 point) is "not used for graduate courses." It remains a normal part of the undergraduate grading scale.
