How GPA is calculated
SUNY Old Westbury reports two grade point averages each term: a semester GPA and a cumulative GPA, both calculated from the same quality-point scale. Non-graded marks — CR (credit), NC (no credit), I (incomplete), W (withdrawal), WN (withdrawn, never attended), and NR (not reported) — carry no quality points and are excluded from both calculations. Mid-term grades (S/U/F/NR), issued partway through the fall and spring terms, are for progress reporting only and are never recorded on the transcript or calculated into the GPA.

Dean's List and Latin Honors
Dean's List: a full-time student who completes all courses under the normal A–F grading system and earns a 3.50 term GPA is included; a part-time student enrolled in at least 8 credits qualifies under the same 3.50 threshold.
Latin Honors are awarded to graduating seniors who complete at least 60 credits of normally graded coursework (excluding CR, NC, NR, and W) at Old Westbury, comply with the university's academic integrity policy, and are ineligible if an Incomplete is outstanding when honors are calculated:
- Cum Laude: 3.60–3.74 GPA
- Magna Cum Laude: 3.75–3.89 GPA
- Summa Cum Laude: 3.90–4.00 GPA
