Mendocino College (MC) GPA Calculator

Cumulative GPA is computed by dividing the total number of units attempted into the total number of grade points earned. Units graded W, EW, P, NP, I, or IP are not counted in units attempted and do not affect GPA.

Course repetition: a student may repeat a course in which a D, F, NC, NP, or W was received (up to two times, three enrollments total) to improve the grade. The original grade stays on the transcript, but when substandard coursework is repeated, the first two substandard grades may be excluded from the GPA calculation.

Academic renewal: after two years and 15 subsequent units completed at a 2.0 GPA or better, a student may petition to have up to 24 units of substandard work (D, F, or No Pass) disregarded in the GPA calculation. Academic renewal cannot be used to raise the GPA to qualify for graduation honors without a separate appeal to the Academic Review Committee.

A student who has attempted at least 12 cumulative units is placed on Academic Probation if their cumulative GPA falls below 2.0, and is removed once it reaches 2.0 or higher. A student is placed on Progress Probation if the percentage of units graded W, I, NP, or NC reaches or exceeds 50%, and is removed once that percentage drops below 50%.

A student on Academic Probation is subject to dismissal after three consecutive semesters with a cumulative GPA below 2.0; a student on Progress Probation is subject to dismissal after three consecutive semesters with W/I/NP at 50% or more of units. Dismissed students may attend summer session to improve their standing, may request reinstatement after one semester's absence, and may appeal a dismissal in writing within 30 days.

To earn an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree, a student needs a minimum of 60 semester units of acceptable college credit and an overall GPA of 2.0 ("C" or better) in coursework at Mendocino College and in all college work combined. Each course counted toward the major must also be completed with a "C" or better.

Students who complete 12 or more credit units in a fall or spring semester (Pass/No Pass units don't count toward the 12) are recognized with a semester honors designation: President's List for a 3.75 GPA or higher, and Dean's List for a 3.50-3.74 GPA. Honors are not awarded for the summer semester.

Credit from other accredited colleges or universities can be applied toward a Mendocino College degree or certificate upon written request and submission of an official transcript to the Office of Admissions and Records. Coursework from an accredited foreign institution may also be applied after evaluation by an approved credentials evaluation agency. Mendocino College does not determine how its own courses will transfer to other institutions.
