Grades Not Computed in the GPA
Several grades carry no quality-point value and are excluded from the GPA calculation: I (IA through IE, temporary incomplete grades), NR (a temporary grade), P (pass, under the pass/fail option), F (fail, under the pass/fail option), and W (withdrawn). AU (Audit) carries no credit and no grade.
Students electing to audit a course may attend classes and receive the benefit of lectures and discussion, but may not submit assignments or take examinations, earn no grade or credit, and need instructor consent to enroll as an auditor.

How the GPA Is Calculated
At the end of each semester (and/or summer session), a semester GPA is calculated by dividing the total credits attempted (excluding grades of I, P, F, and W) into the sum of the products of grade points and credits for all courses taken. The cumulative GPA reflects a student's entire history at Worcester State University and is a major factor in class membership, academic standing, and eligibility for honors.
Only grades earned at Worcester State University, or through the Consortium Program, are computed in the cumulative GPA. When a course is repeated, only the highest grade is computed into the cumulative GPA, although all attempts remain on the transcript.

Minimum GPA for Good Standing and Probation
To remain in good standing, a matriculated student's cumulative GPA must meet a minimum that rises with college credits (attempted at Worcester State plus any accepted in transfer): 1.50 at 1-29 credits, 1.75 at 30-59 credits, and 2.00 at 60 or more credits.
Students are not placed on probation until 24 semester hours attempted, but may be placed on a warning status after 12 semester hours if below the minimum standard, which caps enrollment at 16 semester hours per semester. Students on academic probation may not participate in intercollegiate athletics, may not register for more than 12 semester hours per semester, and may not serve on any standing or ad hoc university governance committee. Failing to regain good standing after two regular (Fall/Spring) semesters results in academic dismissal; a student dismissed for academic deficiency may not register until 12 months have elapsed, and a readmitted student must then earn at least a 2.0 GPA each semester or face a second, non-appealable separation.

Why doesn't the calculator show a separate F grade?
At Worcester State, the standard failing grade that carries grade points and is counted in the GPA is E (0.0), not F. F exists separately, but only as the failing outcome under the pass/fail grading option, and carries no numeric grade-point value of its own — it is not part of the standard letter-grade scale used for GPA calculation.
