How the UT San Antonio GPA is calculated
The university grade point average (GPA) is determined by dividing the number of grade points earned at UT San Antonio by the number of for-credit semester credit hours attempted at UT San Antonio. Credits and grades for work completed at other institutions, credits earned by examination, or hours in which grades of "CR" were earned are not included in the university GPA.
GPA calculations do not round up but truncate to the second decimal place (for example, 3.816 truncates to 3.81, with no rounding).
Students may repeat a course in which they received a "D+," "D," "D-," or "F" to improve their grade; only the higher grade's hours and points are then used in the GPA. Repeating a course in which "C-" or higher was earned marks the repeat as a duplicate, and neither its grade nor its hours count toward the GPA. An undergraduate may repeat at most four courses to improve grades, and only once per course.

Academic warning, probation, and dismissal
Undergraduate students remain in good standing with a university GPA of 2.0 or higher. Students whose GPA falls below 2.0 are placed on academic warning, academic probation, or academic dismissal as appropriate. First-time undergraduates who fall below a 2.0 semester GPA in their first term go directly to academic probation, bypassing warning.
A student on academic probation is cleared only by raising the overall GPA back above 2.0; a student who stays below 2.0 overall but posts a 2.0 or higher term GPA remains on probation rather than being dismissed. Students on probation whose overall and term GPA both remain below 2.0 are placed on academic dismissal.
Graduate students are placed on academic probation under university-defined conditions and are cleared only once their overall UT San Antonio graduate GPA reaches 3.0.

GPA and graduation
Students cannot graduate while on academic probation. An undergraduate cannot graduate with an outstanding "IN" (Incomplete) on their record; if the course is not required for the degree, the "IN" converts to an "F" instead. Once a student graduates, the GPA at the time of graduation is the official GPA — courses may no longer be repeated afterward to raise it.

Credit/no-credit and Latin Honors
Courses taken on an optional credit/no-credit basis do not count toward the 45 semester credit hours required for University Latin Honors.

Transfer coursework and the UT San Antonio GPA
Credits and grades for work completed at other institutions are not included in the UT San Antonio university GPA. For a student seeking reinstatement after academic dismissal, transfer coursework completed elsewhere must show at least a 2.0 GPA on a four-point scale to be considered.
