How Your GPA Is Calculated

Each grade is assigned a grade point equivalent in quality points for each term credit hour scheduled. Your GPA is determined by dividing the total quality points earned by the number of term hours scheduled.

You may repeat a curriculum course once (a third attempt requires Dean approval for documented extenuating circumstances). When a course is repeated, only one attempt is counted in your GPA and in hours earned, though all attempts remain on your official transcript.

You may petition to have grades at least four years old forgiven. A forgiven grade stays on your transcript but no longer counts toward your GPA (it still counts toward the separate Financial Aid GPA).

Academic Standing

You are in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above. Standing is reviewed at the end of each term:

  • Academic Warning — cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 for the first time.
  • Academic Probation — GPA is still below 2.0 after a term on warning; noted on your permanent record.
  • Academic Suspension — GPA is still below 2.0 after a term on probation; results in suspension from the College for one 16-week semester.

GPA Requirements for Graduation

To graduate, you must have sufficient grade points to average at least a 2.0 in both your major and cumulative GPA, and passing grades in all required courses. Certain curricula, especially in the health programs, require at least a B in major subject courses to be eligible to sit for state and national licensure examinations.

Academic Honors

The President's List recognizes students with a perfect (4.0) grade point average each semester; the Dean's List recognizes students with an outstanding GPA each semester — both are reflected on the student's transcript.

Graduating with a quality point average of 3.5 in your program of study earns a diploma or degree with honors; a 4.0 average earns highest honors.

Transfer Credit and GPA

Official transcripts from previously attended colleges or universities are required to have prior coursework evaluated for transfer credit to FTCC.

If you plan to transfer FTCC credit elsewhere, be aware that the University of North Carolina System and other institutions generally require a grade of C or better in each transferred course, and receiving institutions do not have consistent policies on course repeats — some recompute your GPA using only the originally earned grade rather than FTCC's own repeat rule.

Frequently asked questions

Can I save my semesters and track my CGPA at FTCC?
Yes. After you calculate a semester's GPA, click "Save as semester" to add it to the built-in CGPA tracker, which then computes your cumulative GPA across every saved semester using the standard weighted formula (Σ SGPA × credits ÷ Σ credits). You can save semesters by course (full breakdown) or quick-add a past semester with just the SGPA and credit hours. Locking, renaming, and deleting saved semesters are all supported, and the tracker shows a running CGPA plus a trend arrow versus your previous semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA at FTCC?
Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of every semester's SGPA. The formula is: CGPA = (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + … + SGPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + credits₂ + … + creditsₙ). On this page, add each semester to the CGPA tracker (either by course or as a quick SGPA + credit-hours entry) and the calculator runs the conversion for you on every save, edit, and delete — no manual arithmetic required.
Can I add past semester GPAs without entering every course?
Yes. On the My CGPA Tracker tab, click "Add semester" and choose the quick-add option. You enter just the SGPA and the credit hours for that semester — no course-by-course breakdown required. It works as a GPA calculator with previous semesters support, or as a GPA calculator without course details when you only remember the SGPA from your transcript. Quick-added and course-by-course semesters can be mixed freely; both contribute to your CGPA using the same credit-weighted formula.
Is my CGPA tracker data sent to your servers?
No. Your saved semesters are stored locally in your browser only — nothing is transmitted to GPAWise. A "Clear all tracker data" button is always available on the tracker tab to wipe the data on demand.
Is this Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) GPA calculator free?
Yes — GPAWise is completely free to use. There's no signup, no paywall, and your inputs stay in your browser.
