GPA Definitions and Grade Replacement
UAFS distinguishes four GPA figures: Cumulative GPA (all credit, wherever and however earned), Institutional Cumulative GPA (all credit earned at UAFS, including concurrent credit), Term GPA (credit earned at UAFS during a single fall, spring, or summer term), and Transfer GPA (credit earned outside UAFS).
Students may repeat a course and request grade replacement for up to 12 credit hours total. Replacement is allowed only for an initial grade of C, D, or F (not A or B), can be applied once per course, and has been in effect for courses taken from fall 2018 onward. The excluded attempt is marked "E" on the transcript; all other repeated-course grades count in the GPA.

Full-time undergraduates earning a 4.0 semester GPA (after completing 12 or more college-level hours) and part-time students earning a 4.0 GPA in both the semester and cumulative record (after 6 or more hours in each of two consecutive semesters) are recognized on both the Chancellor's List and the Dean's List.

Frequently asked questions
What grading scheme does University of Arkansas - Fort Smith (UAFS) use?
Where does this UAFS grade scale come from?
Does this scale apply to UAFS graduate students too?
No. This calculator reflects UAFS's undergraduate catalog scale (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0, FX=0). UAFS's Graduate Catalog publishes a separate, narrower scale with no D grade at all - A=4, B=3, C=2, F=0, FX=0 - so graduate coursework should not be estimated with this tool.

Why are F and FX both worth 0 points but shown separately?
Both are 0.0 grade points, but they are different grades: F is a standard failing grade, while FX designates failure specifically due to an academic-integrity violation. UAFS's catalog counts both in the GPA at 0 points and treats them as distinct, separately reported grades rather than variants of the same letter.
