Northeast Community College GPA Calculator

Beyond the letter grades used in GPA calculation, Northeast Community College records several other notations. P (Pass) can only be used in a pass/fail class; credit is awarded but no quality points are earned. W (Withdrawal) is recorded after a student formally withdraws from a class before the end of the withdrawal period. I (Incomplete) is a temporary grade for a student who has completed most of a course's requirements but cannot finish due to circumstances beyond their control; it must be resolved within one year or it converts to an F. AU denotes an audited course.

UF (Unearned F) is assigned when a student stops attending a course without officially withdrawing; it counts as a failure in both GPA and academic standing calculations.

Remedial (zero-level) coursework is recorded with an R prefix (RA+ through RF) and Continuing Education coursework with an N prefix (NA+ through NF); neither carries published grade points, and Continuing Education grades do not count toward GPA.

To compute GPA, the semester hours of credit for each course are multiplied by the grade points earned, and the sum of grade points is divided by the total number of credits attempted.

Repeats of successfully completed credits are considered in the hours attempted and may be used in determining enrollment status for financial aid purposes.

A student who applies for and receives Academic Amnesty has the credits attempted and grades earned in the identified prior term(s) excluded from their GPA calculation, including courses that were successfully completed.

• Good Standing: cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
• Academic Warning: cumulative GPA of 1.99 or lower; the student is restricted to no more than 12 credit hours the following semester and must meet with a First Year Advisor to develop an Academic Recovery Plan.
• Academic Probation: a student on Academic Warning who does not achieve a 2.0 semester GPA in the next semester; restricted to no more than 6 credit hours the following semester.
• Academic Suspension: a student on Academic Probation who does not achieve a 2.0 semester GPA in the next semester; prohibited from enrolling for one semester (excluding summer) and administratively withdrawn from any classes for the next term. Suspension may be appealed to the Executive Director of Student Success.

A student returns to Good Standing once their cumulative GPA is 2.0 or higher.

To receive a degree, diploma, or certificate, a student must:

1. Attain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 in their graduating term.
2. Earn a minimum of 15 credit hours of instruction from Northeast Community College for a degree, 9 credit hours for a diploma, and 6 credit hours for a certificate.
3. Follow the catalog in effect when they first enrolled (a new catalog applies after a break in enrollment, a change of major, or if the prior program curriculum is no longer available).
4. Complete the Graduation Application.
5. Meet any additional requirements specified for the particular degree, diploma, or certificate.

President's List: a 4.0 GPA after completing at least 12 credit hours in the nominated semester (6 credit hours for part-time students).

Dean's List: a GPA of 3.75 to 3.99 after completing at least 12 credit hours in the nominated semester (6 credit hours for part-time students).

A minimum of 15 credit hours from Northeast Community College is required for a degree, 9 for a diploma, and 6 for a certificate. A student with transfer hours seeking a certificate must also earn a minimum of 6 credit hours from Northeast and maintain a cumulative grade average of "C" or above.

Students planning to transfer credit to another institution are encouraged to select general education courses based on transferability and to consult their academic advisor, since the receiving institution makes the final decision on accepting transfer credit.
