Grade symbols beyond A–F
Besides the standard letter grades, TJC's catalog lists several non-averaged transcript symbols: I (Incomplete, due to illness, unavoidable circumstances, or medical necessity) must be resolved within 30 calendar days after the start of the next long semester or it converts to F. W (Withdrawn) marks a withdrawal from a course without failing, made prior to the drop deadline. CR denotes credit awarded by examination, Advanced Placement, or articulation agreement. WL denotes a "good cause drop." A "D" suffix after a letter grade denotes a developmental course grade, and a "T" suffix denotes a transfer course grade.

Grade Forgiveness (Repeat) Policy
A student may repeat a previously taken course to improve their grade. Only the semester credit hours and quality points from the highest grade earned are used in calculating the cumulative grade-point average; the repeated course's lower grade is excluded from earned hours on the official record, though all attempts remain on the transcript. Major/topic courses required to be repeated for certain majors are exempt from this policy.

Academic Standing
Students are in good standing with a cumulative TJC GPA of 2.0 or higher. A student who fails to maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA is placed on academic probation; a student on probation who does not earn at least a 2.0 semester GPA in the next enrolled semester is placed on academic suspension.
Suspension periods: first suspension, one regular semester (or one full summer); second suspension, one academic year; a third suspension bars indefinite re-enrollment. One academic year must pass before a readmission request may be submitted, and suspension may be appealed to the Academic Suspension Appeals Committee.

Dean's List, President's List, and Graduation Honors
Dean's List and President's List are based on semester GPA (developmental courses excluded), for students enrolled in at least 12 semester hours of college-level courses. President's List requires a 4.0 GPA; Dean's List requires a minimum 3.3 GPA.
Graduation honors (based on cumulative GPA in college-level coursework, 1000-level or above): Summa Cum Laude at 4.0, Magna Cum Laude at 3.6, and Cum Laude at 3.3.

Transfer Credit
Credit from other colleges and universities is evaluated for applicability toward a TJC degree or certificate. Credit transfers when: an official transcript is received before the end of the student's first semester of enrollment; the course was passed; and, for coursework completed outside the U.S., evaluation is done on an individual basis (the transcript-evaluation process may require documentation of course learning outcomes from the prior institution).
