Repeated Courses and GPA
Students may repeat a course in which they earned a grade of D+ or lower. No more than one course may be repeated per semester, and it must be taken alongside a full-time load of at least 12 new credit hours.
Only the second grade — whether higher or lower than the first — is used to calculate GPA; the original grade stays visible on the transcript but no longer counts toward attempted or earned credit hours. A WF (Withdrawn Failing) grade resulting from an academic-misconduct finding is never removed from the GPA, and in that case both the original and repeat grades are counted.

Academic Standing & Probation
To remain in good academic standing, Newcomb-Tulane College undergraduates must maintain a cumulative GPA at or above a threshold that rises with earned hours at Tulane:
- 1.600 cumulative GPA for 0–24 earned hours
- 1.800 cumulative GPA for 25–48 earned hours
- 2.000 cumulative GPA for 49 or more earned hours
Falling below the minimum GPA or missing an earned-hours milestone results in academic probation, which cannot be appealed and may be held for at most two consecutive semesters. Failure to return to good standing within that window results in academic dismissal; a dismissed student may apply for readmission after at least one semester away from Tulane.

Dean's List and Latin Honors
Dean's List: awarded each fall and spring to full-time, degree-seeking Newcomb-Tulane College students with a semester GPA of 3.700 or better and no grade below C that semester (satisfactory/unsatisfactory coursework excluded).
Latin honors are based on GPA alone, calculated once a year from the graduating May class: summa cum laude (top 5%), magna cum laude (next 8%), and cum laude (next 12%).
Honors Thesis: departmental honors generally requires an overall GPA of 3.4 and a 3.5 GPA in the major department, though departments may grant case-by-case exceptions.

Transfer Credit GPA Rules
Transfer credit is granted only for coursework in which a grade of C or better was earned at a regionally accredited institution (SACSCOC, HLC, MSCHE, NECHE, NWCCU, or WASC). Grades themselves do not transfer — only credit hours — so a Tulane GPA deficiency cannot be remedied by coursework taken elsewhere.
