How the GPA Is Calculated
Texas State uses a four-point grading system. GPA is calculated as the total grade points earned divided by the number of semester hours attempted.
Grades of "I" (Incomplete), "CR" (Credit), "PR" (temporary/non-punitive), "NC" (not completed correspondence course), and "W" (Withdrawal) are excluded from the GPA calculation — neither hours nor grade points are counted for these symbols.
When a course is repeated, the second grade (first repeat) and all subsequent grades are included in computing Texas State hours attempted, grade points earned, and GPA; "W", "I", "PR", and "RP" grades are excluded from this repeat calculation.
