Additional Grade Notations
Beyond the letter grades used in the GPA calculation, TCC's grading policy defines several notations that carry no grade points and are not counted toward cumulative GPA:
- S (Satisfactory) — awarded for work at the level of C or higher; credit-only, no grade point.
- U (Unsatisfactory) — awarded for work at the level of C- or below; no credit, no grade point.
- I (Incomplete) — a temporary grade requiring an Incomplete Grade Agreement; converts to an earned letter grade after one quarter unless an extension is agreed with the instructor.
- W (Withdrawal) — student-initiated official withdrawal, generally through the 60th calendar day of the quarter.
- IP (In Progress) — used in Basic Education for Adults (BEdA) programming; limited to two attempts per course before a letter grade is required.
- N (Audit) — no grade awarded; the course is not assessed.
Faculty may or may not use plus/minus grading in a given class. Grades A, B, C, D, and S are considered passing for financial aid purposes.
