Las Positas College (LPC) GPA Calculator

The Academic Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated by dividing total grade points earned by total units attempted.

• Grades earned in non-degree-applicable courses (numbered 100-299, below the English 1A requirement) are not used when calculating a student's degree-applicable GPA.
• "P" (Pass), "NP" (No Pass), "SP" (Satisfactory Progress), and the administrative symbols "I" (Incomplete), "IP" (In Progress), and "RD" (Report Delayed) do not carry grade points and are not used in calculating the GPA.
• A student may repeat a course in which a grade of "D," "F," or "NP" was earned.

Academic Renewal permits substandard (D/F) coursework not reflective of a student's current ability to be alleviated from the GPA calculation, by petition, after completing either 12 consecutive units at a regionally accredited institution with a 2.5+ GPA, or 20 units with a 2.0+ GPA. A student may petition for Academic Renewal only once, and a maximum of 24 units may be renewed.

A student who has attempted at least 12 semester units and has a cumulative GPA below 2.0 is placed on Academic Probation I. A student on Academic Probation I who does not raise their cumulative GPA to 2.0 or higher the following semester is placed on Academic Probation II. A student on Academic Probation II who still does not reach a 2.0 cumulative GPA the following semester is dismissed.

A first-time dismissed student may apply for readmission after one semester of non-attendance (summer excluded); after a second dismissal, readmission requires 5 years of non-attendance or an appeal to the Vice President of Student Services. Probation status is removed once cumulative GPA reaches 2.0 ("C") or higher.

A separate track, Progress Probation, is based on the percentage of cumulative units with substandard progress grades (W, N, or I) rather than GPA: Progress Probation I applies at 50% or more substandard units after 12 attempted units, escalating to Progress Probation II and then dismissal under the same non-attendance/readmission terms.

Veterans lose certification for VA education benefits after two semesters of academic probation.

Students completing at least 6 units in a semester with a semester GPA of 3.25 or better are placed on the Academic Honors List, noted on the semester grade report and transcript.

At graduation, students with a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better graduate with "Highest Honors," and those with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better graduate with "Honors."

The Sigma Theta Chapter of Alpha Gamma Sigma (AGS), a California Community College honor scholarship society, also recognizes academic achievement; eligibility is available through the AGS advisor.

Pass/No Pass unit limitations may exist at transfer institutions, separate from Las Positas College's own Pass/No Pass unit caps.

Academic Renewal (the alleviation of substandard D/F grades from the GPA) does not guarantee that other colleges will accept this action — acceptance is at the discretion of the receiving institution.
