Hillsborough Community College (HCC) GPA Calculator

Letter grades A, B, C, D, and F are the only grades used in computing a student's Grade Point Average (GPA). Several additional terms may be awarded but are not used in the GPA computation: Audit (AU), Administrative Withdrawal (AW), Incomplete (I), No Credit (N), Grade Not Reported by Instructor (NR), Satisfactory (S), Unsatisfactory (U), Withdraw (W), and Withdrawn, Non-Attendance (WN).

For the purpose of determining satisfactory academic standing, only institutional GPA (including remedial coursework) is used; transfer GPA is not included in this calculation.

A student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.00 ("C") to remain in satisfactory academic standing. Falling below 2.00 moves a student through four sequential statuses: Warning (cumulative GPA below 2.00; must earn a 2.00 term GPA to clear), Probation (term GPA falls below 2.00 while on Warning), Suspension (term GPA falls below 2.00 while on Probation; cannot register for one term), and Dismissal (term GPA falls below 2.00 while on Suspension; cannot register for one calendar year). A student returns to good standing at any step once cumulative GPA rises back to 2.00 or better.

An Associate in Arts (AA) degree requires a minimum 2.0 AA Degree GPA, including a 2.0 HCC GPA in all courses leading to the degree. An Associate in Science (AS) degree or College Credit Certificate (CCC) requires a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA, including a 2.0 HCC GPA in courses leading to the credential. The AA Degree GPA averages all applicable A-through-F grades, including grades earned at other accredited colleges; college-preparatory and occupational-technical courses are excluded from it.

To graduate with Honors, a student must achieve a cumulative HCC grade point average of 3.5 or above, for either an AA or an AS/CCC credential.

Transfer coursework is treated differently depending on which GPA is being calculated. For satisfactory academic standing (Warning/Probation/Suspension/Dismissal), only institutional GPA counts; transfer GPA is not included. For the AA Degree GPA used at graduation, grades earned at other accredited colleges that apply to the degree are averaged in alongside HCC grades. Transfer students fulfill degree requirements under a single selected catalog, and general-education coursework from the transferring institution is accepted if it satisfies the humanities/fine arts, social/behavioral sciences, and natural science/mathematics areas.
