Harford Community College GPA Calculator

In addition to the A–F letter grades, Harford Community College's transcript uses several symbols that are not counted toward GPA:

• W — Withdrawal
• WX — Withdrawal due to Failure to Attend (assigned after non-participation in the first 60% of a course)
• I — Incomplete; if not resolved within 60 days of the semester's end, it converts automatically to an F, which is then counted in the GPA
• K — Audit
• N — No Grade Provided

Letter grades earned in transitional studies courses (numbered below 100) are marked with an asterisk on the transcript, and D grades are not issued in these courses; grades from transitional studies courses are not computed into the student's GPA.

The semester GPA is determined by multiplying the credit hours of each completed course by the quality points earned for the final grade, then dividing the total by the credit GPA hours completed that semester. Only college-level credit courses completed at Harford Community College are used in the calculation.

Academic Renewal allows students to request that up to 16 college-level credits of D or F grades be excluded from their GPA calculation, provided the coursework was completed five or more years earlier, at least 12 college-level credits with a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA have since been completed, and the request is made only once. Courses with a D grade already used to award a prior degree or certificate are not eligible.

At the end of each semester, a student's academic standing is determined by comparing their cumulative GPA to their total cumulative GPA hours attempted. There are four standing levels: Good Academic Standing, Academic Warning, Academic Restriction, and Academic Suspension.

Students who do not reach good standing progress from Academic Warning to Academic Restriction to Academic Suspension; achieving a 2.00 GPA in a subsequent term moves a student back toward good standing.

To earn an associate degree, students must complete a minimum of 60 college-level credit hours (at least 15 at Harford Community College) with a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher, and earn at least a C grade in ENG 101 English Composition or pass a standardized college-wide writing examination.

Certificate programs require a GPA of 2.00 or higher in the required coursework, with at least 25 percent of credit hours earned at Harford Community College.

Students earn a place on the President's List with a semester GPA of 3.76 or higher, and on the Dean's List with a GPA of 3.50 to 3.75, provided they receive no grade of C, D, F, or I that semester and complete at least 12 credits (full-time) or 6–11 credits (part-time).

The Honors Program requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 (in at least 12 college-level credits) to enter, and continued enrollment requires maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2, including a 3.2 or better in designated Honors courses.

General education courses transfer with a grade of D or higher, except ENG 101 English Composition, which requires a C or higher. Non-general-education transfer credit is accepted when the calculated cumulative GPA of the block of transferred courses is 2.0 or higher.
