Grading System
SUNY Brockport uses a plus-and-minus letter grading system. The highest letter grade is A — A+ is not awarded. For failed courses, a grade of E is used instead of F.
Grades of S/U (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory), W (withdrawal), I (incomplete), PR (in-progress), and AU (audit) do not carry quality points and are not counted toward the GPA.

How Your GPA Is Calculated
Your GPA is computed by dividing total quality points earned by the number of credits completed. Any course taken on the letter-grade option contributes to your semester and cumulative GPA.
If you repeat a course, only the most recent grade counts toward your GPA — the earlier grade is excluded from the calculation, though all attempts remain on your transcript. Your cumulative GPA reflects all grades earned at Brockport, including D's and E's, to date.

GPA Requirements for Graduation
To earn an undergraduate degree, students must complete their degree requirements with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale), and an overall 2.0 average in required major courses. Some departments set higher minimum GPA requirements for specific majors or course sequences.

Transfer Credit and GPA
Credits earned at other institutions may transfer, but grades earned elsewhere do not. Your Brockport GPA reflects only the level of achievement in coursework completed at Brockport — transferred credits count toward your credit total but have no effect on your GPA.

What grading scheme does SUNY Brockport use?

How do repeated courses affect my GPA?
The last grade you receive in a repeated course replaces the first for GPA purposes. Both attempts remain on your transcript, but only the most recent grade is factored into your GPA.

Does an Incomplete (I) grade affect my GPA?
No. A grade of I means your instructor has not yet issued a final grade, usually because a course requirement is outstanding. It is not considered in your GPA calculation until it is replaced with a final grade.
