Not every grade or course factors into your cumulative GPA at Stony Brook. Under the Graded/Pass/No Credit (GPNC) option, a student may elect to have a course's final grade recorded as a Pass (P) or, if the letter grade would be an F, as No Credit (NC); neither P nor NC is calculated into the GPA. The option must be elected by the ninth week of classes, is limited to one course per term, and is not available for graduate-level courses (numbered 500 or higher).
Grades for courses transferred from other institutions do not affect the GPA. Grades earned in developmental courses are not calculated into the cumulative GPA, though they are still included in the term GPA and in Dean's List and academic-standing calculations.

How do I convert semester GPA to cumulative GPA at SBU?
Your cumulative GPA is the credit-weighted average of your semester GPAs across every semester: (semester GPA₁ × credits₁ + … + semester GPAₙ × creditsₙ) ÷ (credits₁ + … + creditsₙ). Save each semester to the tracker on this page, by course or as a quick semester GPA + credits entry, and it works out your cumulative GPA on every save, edit and delete.
Is this SBU GPA calculator free, and is my data private?
Yes. GPAWise is free, with no signup, and your courses and saved semesters stay in your browser: nothing is sent to our servers. "Clear all tracker data" on the tracker wipes them at any time.
