Grading System
Grades of A, B, C, D, and F carry standard quality points; ULM does not recognize + or - grade modifiers. "I" (incomplete) is computed as an F (zero quality points, counted in the GPA) unless the coursework is completed and the grade changed by the deadline. "AU" (audit), "W" (withdrew), "CR" (credit), "NC" (no credit), and "IP" (in progress) carry no quality points and are not used to compute the GPA.
A course may be repeated up to three times; when a course is repeated, both grades count toward the cumulative GPA, though only the last grade counts toward the graduation average.

Cumulative vs. Graduation Average
ULM distinguishes two averages: the cumulative average, based on all hours pursued (including repeats), used for graduation honors and admission to graduate/professional programs; and the graduation average, a corrected average on coursework earned toward the degree, where only the last grade in a repeated course counts. The graduation average is not printed on the official transcript.
Students who qualify may apply for one-time Academic Renewal: at least three calendar years must have passed since the coursework was earned, and previously earned hours and quality points are then excluded from both the GPA and the degree program, though the renewed history remains on the transcript. A student who receives Academic Renewal is not eligible for graduation honors.

Academic Standing: Probation and Suspension
Undergraduate students are placed on academic probation whenever their cumulative GPA falls below 2.0, and remain on probation until the cumulative GPA reaches 2.0 or higher. A student on probation who fails to earn at least a 2.0 GPA in a semester or summer term is suspended; first-time freshmen are not suspended before completing two enrolled terms. Suspension is one semester for a first suspension and one calendar year for subsequent suspensions; suspended students may appeal to their academic dean for reinstatement.

Requirements for the Baccalaureate Degree
Candidates for a bachelor's degree must earn a minimum of 120 semester hours in degree credit courses, complete at least 25% of required semester credit hours through ULM instruction, and achieve an overall "C" (2.0) average in all degree coursework — including a "C" average in the major field and, if applicable, the minor field — with a minimum grade of "C" in both first-year English composition courses and the first required non-developmental mathematics course.

Degrees with Honors
Baccalaureate and Doctor of Pharmacy graduates receive Latin honors based on cumulative GPA: Cum Laude for 3.500-3.749, Magna Cum Laude for 3.750-3.899, and Summa Cum Laude for 3.900-4.000. The graduate with the single highest cumulative GPA is designated Top Graduate. A student who has declared Academic Renewal is not eligible for graduation honors.
Full-time undergraduates earn the President's List with a term GPA of 3.9 or higher, or the Dean's List with a term GPA of 3.5-3.89.
