What Counts Toward Your GPA
Not every mark on a St. John's University transcript carries GPA weight. The mark of ABF (Absent/Failure), assigned to undergraduates who do not exercise the pass/fail option and miss their final examination, counts in the GPA as an F.
- AU (Audit) — students approved to audit a course receive no credit for it, and audited courses may not be repeated for credit.
- P (Passing) — assigned to undergraduates approved for the pass/fail option who do passing work; undergraduates on the pass/fail option who do failing work receive X, and those who miss their final exam receive ABX.
- WD (Withdrawal) — assigned on completion of the official withdrawal process.
- UW (Unofficial Withdrawal) — may be assigned at an instructor's discretion where there is an insufficient basis for an earned grade.
On the graduate level, C is the lowest passing grade, and there is no D- on the undergraduate level.
