Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) GPA Calculator

UUM grades every course on a fixed 12-point scale from A+ down to F, with one unconditional marks band per grade covering the full 0–100 range — the same table applies whether you're a full-time student, an Off-Campus Programme (PJJ) student, or taking an Intersession course.

Two grades sit outside the normal marks bands: X (Barred) is given when attendance at lectures and tutorials falls below 80%, or for arriving more than 30 minutes late to a final exam without reasonable grounds — it carries a 0.00 grade point and, unlike a normal fail, can never be redeemed for that course. TL (Incomplete) is a temporary placeholder for unfinished requirements (not exams) that must be cleared within a set number of weeks or it automatically becomes an F.

UUM's CGPA is credit-hour weighted across every course you've registered: for each course, multiply its grade point by its credit hours, add that up across all courses taken since joining UUM, then divide by the total credit hours registered.

Audit courses (M/TM grade) are excluded entirely from CGPA — you still have to sit the final exam and complete the coursework, but the result doesn't affect your average either way.

Repeating a course. If you get C-, D+, D, or F in any course, you must register for and repeat that specific course until you earn at least a C (Pass) in it. Beyond course-level repeats, if your semester CGPA falls to between 1.00 and 1.49, UUM can place you on a one-time, first-semester-only Repeat Semester status: every subject you took that semester is cancelled and removed from your CGPA calculation entirely, and you effectively start that semester's coursework over.

• Pass (CGPA ≥ 2.00): you proceed normally to the next semester.
• Conditional Pass (CGPA 1.50–1.99): you're advised to raise your CGPA to 2.00 by the following semester.
• Repeat Semester status (CGPA 1.00–1.49): allowed once only, in your first semester of study — every subject from that semester is cancelled and excluded from your CGPA, and you must raise your CGPA to 2.00 the following semester.
• Fail and dismissal (CGPA below 1.00): you are dismissed from the University outright.

Students who fall into Failed and Terminated status after a Conditional Pass or Repeat Semester attempt aren't necessarily finished, though: a CGPA of 1.90–1.99 (without an X/Barred status) earns one last chance to continue and hit 2.00 the following semester, and a CGPA of 1.80–1.89 (also without an X status) allows an appeal on the same terms. Miss the 2.00 target after that, and there are no further appeals.

To be conferred a Bachelor's Degree with Honours at UUM, you need to:

• Meet the credit-hour and study-duration requirements of your specific programme (minimum 3 semesters full-time, 6 semesters Off-Campus; maximum 11 semesters full-time, 20 semesters Off-Campus).
• Obtain an overall CGPA of 2.00 or above.
• Obtain a CGPA of 2.00 or above specifically within your Programme Core Courses.
• Pass every course you take — except Audit Courses — with at least a CGPA-equivalent of 2.00 (i.e. at least a C in each individual course, since anything below C must be repeated until a C is reached).

UUM classifies Bachelor's Honours degrees into three divisions, based entirely on your final CGPA:

• First Class Honours — CGPA 3.67 to 4.00
• Upper Second Class — CGPA 3.00 to 3.66
• Lower Second Class — CGPA 2.00 to 2.99

From a Diploma or another university: you may transfer credit hours for courses that are equivalent to, or at a higher level than, the UUM course they'd replace, provided your performance in those courses meets UUM's own programme requirements. UUM reserves the right to test you to confirm the transfer is warranted.

Practicum credit transfer (available since the second semester of the 2009/2010 session) is narrower: it only applies to Bachelor's-with-Honours students in stipulated programmes who have at least 6 years of government or private-sector service and are registered with UUM (or a partner institution with a formal UUM collaboration) — and the transferred credits don't count against the normal 1/3-of-total-credit-hours cap on Practicum.

Overseas Study Programme graduates are exempted from retaking University Core, Programme Core, and Free Elective courses that are recognized as equivalent to what they've already completed — those credits count toward UUM's graduation requirements.
