Grade Point Average
The Grade Point Average (GPA) is determined by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the total number of credits attempted. Grade points are computed by multiplying the number of credits completed by the points for the grade earned.
- Semester GPA uses only the courses attempted for that semester.
- Cumulative GPA includes all courses attempted and is maintained as the ongoing record of academic standing.
- Curriculum GPA includes only courses applicable to the student's curriculum, used to check graduation requirements.
Grades of I, R, P/U, S/U, W, and X carry no grade-point value and are not counted in GPA calculation, though W, X, and I do count as attempts toward the two-enrollment repeat limit.
Repeating a course: students are limited to two enrollments in a non-repeatable course. For courses taken fall 2021 or later and repeated after fall 2021, only the highest grade earned counts toward the cumulative GPA (unless the course is designated repeatable for credit or is a General Usage course). A third attempt requires an overall GPA of at least 2.00 and a request submitted to the college; a GPA below 2.00 makes a student ineligible for a third attempt.
Academic renewal: a student returning after a separation of three or more years may petition to have prior "D" and "F" grades removed from the cumulative and curricular GPA, after first earning at least a 2.0 GPA in the first 12 grade-point credit hours following re-enrollment. All original grades remain on the transcript; academic renewal may be granted only once.

Academic Standing
Students are expected to maintain a 2.0 GPA and make normal progress toward graduation.
- Good Academic Standing: minimum 2.0 GPA per semester.
- Academic Warning: issued when a student fails to attain a 2.0 GPA in a semester; not an official standing.
- Academic Probation: applied when cumulative GPA falls below 1.50 (after at least 12 attempted semester credits), and continues until the cumulative GPA reaches 1.75 or better.
- Academic Suspension: applied to a student already on probation who fails to attain a 1.50 semester GPA (after at least 24 attempted semester credits); lasts one semester (excluding summer). After reinstatement, a 2.0 GPA is required for the semester of return and a 1.75 GPA for each semester after that, or the student becomes subject to dismissal.
- Academic Dismissal: applied when a reinstated student fails to reach a 2.00 GPA in the semester of reinstatement; normally permanent, though an appeal for reinstatement is possible.

For a second degree, diploma, certificate, or career studies certificate, the additional award must differ from prior awards by at least 25% of its credits.
